Hi there,

I hope I'm on the right board for this super strange thing.

I'm not really sure how to describe it, so I just attached a video.

Every 20-30 seconds the screen will shrink and after 2-3 seconds return to its original size. During those 2-3 seconds the computer is not responsive.
d
I'm on W11 21H2 (OS Build 22200.613).

The display adapter is GTX 1050 Ti. Its driver is updated.

The display itself is Samsung C27H58x.

Any idea?

Thanks:)

If this a new problem can you perhaps attribuite it to some changes(s) you recently made. Think hardware and software especially Microsoft Windows 11updates. If this is a new problem have you tried a system restore or better yet restoring a prior disk image if you take them, which everyone should IMO.

Have you tried booting into safe mode or doing a clean boot to see what happens?

I wonder if it could be a power issue. Sort of like mini brownouts every few seconds.

I've never seen anything like that with an LCD monitor.

It's almost as if your monitor is a CRT with a failing power supply. It is not.

I hope that you have a spare monitor lying around to swap in to see if the issue has anything to do with the PC. I'd bet (5¢) that it's the monitor.

Did that start happening when you applied update KB5012592 which took you to that build? It came out 2 days ago. I agree with previous suggestion that trying safe mode is a good place to start.

I would imagine if the problem is hardware based it should happen no matter what you boot into.

BTW... Have you checked your Event Log for messages that might indicate what the problem is?

Thanks for all your suggestions and help.

I think I figured out what triggers this.

My desktop is connected to a Yamaha RX-V681 receiver (to stream video and music from it) thru an HDMI extender.

I'm pretty sure the issue with the screen happens only when the receiver is turned on.

It's still something that didn't happen until a few days ago, and no new hardware installation took place.

Must be some update from the last days on W11, Yamaha, video card, or the HDMI extender, right?

HDMI passthrough by a receiver isn't passive.

I don't understand how that could give what you're seeing, but at least it makes things seem possible.

any solution to this? I don't use any HDMI extender as you mentioned above but could it be something to do with the HDMI cable? it's not a huge deal but it's a 2-3 second delay every once in while. I don't think this is a monitor issue as suggested above, this didn't happen with my previous computer which I just moved from.
