Greetings,
I would like to know if sd memory in conjunction with onboard memory counts towards the 64GB memory requirement.

As an example. Would a system with 32 GB onboard with a 64 GB sd card be considered meeting the minimum requirements if the sd card was set as permanent storage?

The system has TPM 2.0 and meets all other requirements.

Storage is something that the system would need access to for the system, and while Windows 11 can be pared down, I'm not sure if 32 GB will be enough for adding a lot of apps. Trying to use the SD card will depend upon the capabilities of the SD card reader, and can probably be used for storage, but I'm not sure if the system would allow you to install parts of the OS onto removable media - even if you don't plan to remove it ever from your machine.

If you were to update your computer specs in the forum we would have a better idea on how well it might (potentially) perform for data access, and we could probably make a few suggestions that *might* work.

Oh, I did check TPM and it is version 2.0.

As a hobby and habit, I try to use all the technology I have....until the next lightening storm. I also have an old Asus eeePC 901 on Windows 10. It is not nearly as snappy as this tablet.

For sure, an SD card will not count towards the minimum spec as an SD card counts as removable memory, not 'hard drive' memory.

I have 2 small light Notebooks with 32GB storage, they cannot run Win10 due to insufficient storage and do not recognize the SDHC card or USB Thumb drives to gain the 12GB additional space needed. They are perfectly fine with Linux Mint 20.2, only need about 12GB. Both Notebooks had Win10 Version 1803 but couldn't Upgrade to later Versions.

The Atom Z3740D isn't on the list of supported CPUs. Windows Processor Requirements Windows 11 Supported Intel Processors I'm not sure of its Intel generation, but it may be Gen4. (It was released in 2013.) Only Gen 8 CPUs and later are supported. That may change before Win 11 is released, but I don't know how to bet.

I don't know whether the 32GB hard drive requirement is enforced on developer channel installations. I'm fairly sure that an SD card wouldn't count. The requirement is probably for a single OS partition.

And there you go. You can possibly try it for now (as the preview releases are not as stringent on hardware requirements) , but you'll have more than one issue with the final product, as long as Microsoft sticks to their requirements.

However, that would make for a fantastic device to test on, to really see the new context menus and tablet-specific enhancements that Windows 11 has over Windows 10. You'll probably want ot make a complete backup of the entire system in hte tablet before you even try to isntall, though, because if the installation does fail and the roll-back process breaks, your tablet may be rendered unusable.

Being the OP only has 2gig of memory on that machine, I wouldn't expect much performance out of 11 there.

You are confused between memory and storage capacity. They are 2 different things in computer world.

I have tested 11 on a similarly spec'd PC with an Intel Atom and just 2GB RAM (albeit with a sufficiently large HDD). IMHO no 64-bit OS should be asked to run (walk?) in just 2GB RAM. :ROFLMAO:

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

Yes, 2gig for a 64bit OS is just enough to start the OS :rolleyes:
