Seagate SeaTools Bootable USB Does Not Work

Hi everyone,

I have tried on 3 USB sticks making a bootable USB of SeaTools. None of them work. The USB simply does not boot.


Is anyone else having the same issue?

Run Seagate SeaTools

SeaTools Bootable provides a basic suite of diagnostic utilities in an environment independent of your installed operating system. This will allow you to test, diagnose, and possibly repair your hard drive, even if your operating system environment is inaccessible.

Please download and use the SeaTools Bootable to create a bootable USB that you can use to diagnose hard drives and monitor SSDs.

The flash drive must be at least 256 MB's but no larger than 32 GB's.

Use SeaBoot_11-18-2019_RC5.usbBootMaker.exe to create bootable USB.


1. Insert the SeaTools USB device and reboot or power on your computer.

2. After SeaTools loads, the Drive List will show different storage devices in your system. Select the drives you would like to test.

3. The menus provide an array of diagnostic tests. Select the test you would like to perform on the selected drives. Please click on Long Generic Test. Long Generic Test scans the entire drive for defects. It will take a long time to complete. Because this test reads every sector on the drive, the amount of time required will depend on the speed and capacity of the disk drive. The highest capacity drives often take 3 to 5 hours per terabyte to complete. At any time, feel free to cancel the test without harming the drive. Long Test is completely data safe.

4. The test will indicate either Pass or Fail. Upon completion of running the diagnostics, the test results will be given. A log for each device is automatically saved if you have booted from a USB device. Test results are automatically saved in a log file with a file name based on the drive serial number. Post the results of the scan in your topic.

If the computer can boot to Windows then there are multiple types of drive tests.

If the computer cannot boot to Windows then run either Sea Tools bootable or Legacy.

If the computer cannot boot using Sea Tools then post images or share links displaying the error messages or codes.

If the computer can no longer boot to Windows and you need to recover some data from the system drive on which this Windows [that the computer cannot boot to] is installed, then recover that important data always first before running any tests, as these test procedures can potentially worsen the data corruptions (if any), and can potentially further damage (or potentially even destroy) the drive permanently if it's already been damaged. For this purpose, consider booting to a USB flash drive that has a bootable Rescue Media or similar type of bootable environment on it so it lets you create an image of what data you want rescued from it, onto a backup drive, but avoid cloning the whole drive if possible, as reading unnecessary data from it may also worsen the issues. Alternatively, consider attaching the suspect drive to a working computer if possible, and go from there.

It boots for me with secure boot turned off. Issue I had was that the trackpad or USB mouse not working correctly. Cursor disappearing and jerky in motion.

If you cannot run either Sea Tools bootable or legacy then see if the computer can run the default or previously installed or Lenovo bootable diagnostics:

I turned secure boot off and it does boot..... to a command prompt I give up on this.
