How can I get rid of this?

Also, when various programs bring up a window to select a file/folder, is there any way to make them all identical with the same sorting methods etc? it's such a pain having multiple applications open to obscure places using an old style popup box.

thanks in advance.

Instead of popup-select or save windows always coming up in weird positions, sizes, settings like this;

How do I force them all to look like this, and stay this size and column size etc? This is something that has been bugging me for about 10 years now with windows to be honest.

About your first question it might be the third party app (StartAllBack) you're using to change Start that's doing it?

It could be - I can't find any setting to do with it though. Thanks

Hopefully someone else that uses StartAllBack can chime in. The only app I use is IconPackager to change the awful 'Noddy like' folder icons.:ffs:

Each program seems to have its own setting or something and usually they don't persist in their configuration.

I've tested it out with Notepad and Greenshot and yes, each program has its own settings. It will remember the last folder to 'save to' and the size change of the window as long as you actually save.

No way to fix it in windows then I take it? you'd think for the sake of like, uniform design they would make that dialogue window homogenous

I think it's a good option personally as I save different programs to different folders. Notepad to docs and Greenshot to my own created folder etc. The size of the save window doesn't really bother me but over time you could change the size for all of your 'save as' windows to be roughly uniform.

I'm not speaking about where it asks you to save - or open files, but the size, position, and view of the window. Perhaps it should take on whatever properties the folder has that it opens to? That seems like the best way to do it.

over time you could change the size for all of your 'save as' windows to be roughly uniform.

Well after installing various windows and linux distros this past week and having to set everything up each time, I've learnt linux does this stuff a lot better, eg the entire /home directory that saves everything, a bit like appdata/local only better because it includes everything not in progfiles or windows. So I'm just setting up Winaero Tweaker right now (god bless this tool and its ability to export changes) and various other registry fixes and hacks so whenever I need a clean install I can get everything usable again, because with each new windows edition it becomes more Fisher Price to cater to the masses.
