Secure Boot NOT required!

Before Windows 11 was available in Release Preview, I used the PC Health Check app to check my PC. I got an error that it was incompatible due to not having a TPM, but I enabled fTPM in the BIOS settings, now I've got Windows 11 running with no problems. It upgraded last week without a hitch.

I HAVE NOT enabled Secure boot in the BIOS, I've never used it. The compatibility checker only ever said Secure Boot *capable* not required.

Yeah I just checked in Hyper-V vm. It seems you can have secure boot off but tpm on and it will install. If tpm is off, it will not.

However, on my host pc, there is not a bios option to turn on tpm as such i.e. it is active if secure boot is enabled. Equally it is off if secure boot is disabled.

I do not know if tpm takes precedence over secure boot or if they work in tandem.

I think it's just different development teams having different ideas, some give options to turn on Secure Boot and integrated TPM as one click ( which could be either being the trigger), others give full choice.

Some older motherboards were fitted with integrated ("on Chip" TPM, but the developers "forgot" to make any switch or method to activate it visible in the bios so have released Bios Updates ( others like ASUS always gave access but the default was off - their updates simply changed the default to on.

All things being equal It's a real SNAFU!!

I have just been getting a pc ready for the upcoming W11 rollout. Going onto the Microsoft website a couple of days ago and running their compatibility checker, it also said "secure boot capable".
