Seeking advice re: best, easiest way to move everything from old Win 10 to new Win 11 PC

Just start fresh. Don't pollute your new PC. Just move your files to an external hard drive.

In my original post I said: I have heard about PC transfer/data migration software, which supposedly takes basically everything from the old computer (files, apps, settings, etc) and moves them all to the new one. Is this true? If so, what's a good one?

Please see my post above which mentions one of those tools. Easy and effective.

. Don't pollute your new PC.

- you're not moving rubbish- only what you select.

And you can do it in multiple stages with a disk image etc at each stage if you wish

E.g. transfer 5 progs, test them, create image, transfer 5 more, and so on- as you like.

You mentioned using Easesus ToDo PC Trans with a clean install. I am moving stuff from my older Win 10 machine to a Win 11 machine that is OOTB. Isn't that different than clean install?

Thank you so much for your reply.

I carefully detailed the steps in my original post. Have you read that? I don't think there was any response at the time.

To be extremely and hopefully definitively clear for you I will state this in different ways:

Basic steps
1. Perform a clean install of Win 11 to your new PC exactly as you would - to a blank disk.

2. Install Easeus ToDo PCTrans on that new PC under Win 11.

3. Use Easeus ToDo PCtrans to transfer entire programs to your new PC.

What does that mean?

Easeus Todo PCTRans is saving you the time of manually installing programs onto your new PC.

Why use it?
It saves a huge amount of time if you want to recreate the working environment you're used to and you have lots of programs to install.

Why should you not bother with it?
If you've only got a few programs- just do that manually.

What does it not mean?
Easeus Todo PCTRans has nothing whatsoever to do with installing Windows.

Now.. you can if I recall transfer two programs for free.
So, following my post, try that.

Don't like it? Can't understand it? Confused?
Then reinstall Windows and do it all manually.

The choice is yours.

You said: 1. Perform a clean install of Win 11 to your new PC exactly as you would - to a blank disk. What I mean is -- Windows 11 is pre-installed on the new computer, and I would like to keep it that way. Am I misunderstanding something? I thought clean install is not the same as pre-installed.

Thank you again. This is not complicated.

1. Windows 11 is installed on the new computer

Whether that is done for you when you buy it, or you do it yourself is irrelevant... except that a bought PC with Win 11 already installed usually comes with a load of trialware most of which you don't want. That's why some people prefer to do a clean install. Your choice.

2. Once you have Win 11 installed - howsoever that be achieved- by the manufacturer, supplier, friend, relative, or you..

you can use Easeus ToDo PCTrans to selectively recreate your previous working environment, choosing to transfer data, settings, programs.

It takes very few steps to do it.

Thank you for your enquiry.

I now understand. I misunderstood perform a clean install. Perform sounded to me like there was something that I needed to do. But since it was pre-installed, there was nothing for me to perform. Thanks!

Does EaseUs also transfer things like product keys and log-in info and browser settings? Does it transfer suites like Microsoft Office? (I can't experiment with it yet, because I haven't purchased the computer yet. I wanted to get some more info first.)

Haven't used the EaseUS product for a couple of years, but when I last used it, it had problems with MS Office -- although that was an old 2016 version.

I use four different browsers (Opera, FireFox. Vivaldi, and Edgeium) and each has their own way of saving and migrating websites, logins, and passwords by creating, copying and reloading configuration files. I do that instead of using EaseUS. I would make the backup files and try using EaseUS because if it works, then you save time and effort.

Hi @dalchina :-)
Didn't windows in the past had its own software for moving your data from an old computer to a new computer... if it was up to win7/8... Don't they have something similar today to win11.... or is everything from MS nowadays cloud only? ... (onedrive/ms-account)
