Hello...I have a question regarding setting my default location in Windows 11...I have gone through the steps in settings, but the problem is that when I click on the set default location, nothing happens, I don't get the map...so I am trying to find out if I have something turned on or off elsewhere that is preventing that or why the map is not opening. I used to not have an issue, but now when I search for something "near me" it gives me output from Virginia (I am near Houston, TX), so not sure what is going on. I went onto Microsoft help yesterday, but that got me nowhere. Ran across your site and thought I might see if you could help. Thanks.

Open Services and see if the geolocation service is not disabled. or not running. Start it if necessary and see if you can then set your location. If not
Set your region in control panel.
If you have turned off location services in settings try turning it back on and give maps permission. After setting your location you can disable it again.

If you check the Geolocation service in services.msc, and see that it is disabled and will not start, change the registry and reboot.

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lfsvc - the default value for "Start" is 3 (manual start) If it is any other value set it to 3
Hope something here helps.

Hi, thanks...the geolocation service said running, but I hit restart and then rebooted, but still no luck. location services was already on, and region was all correct. I just don't understand what happened...it used to not do this. I'm sure it's something I did in a setting or something, but just don't know what it was...however thanks for your suggestions.

I will say, however, in the list of apps that have permission to access my location, maps is not listed. From what I read it is not supposed to be, is that correct?

Maps should be listed under location services under Privacy and security. It is in mine.

That sounds like the issue, and I can find the maps app, but don't know how to get it to show up on the list. Thanks
