You could also first try a simpler method of unpinning from the Taskbar then repining the Settings icon from the Start Menu

No. I haven't made any changes other than a different background image. I've only had this pc for a month.

I've unpinned and repined. No change.

Does that icon launch settings when you select it? How about moving it in the middle, does that change anything?

Launched fine, regardless of where it was located.

I went into Personalization > Color and toggled default Windows and app modes to the 3 options available and then returned them to what I had them set as. For whatever reason, the icon returned to normal.

It’s a common glitch, forgot to mention trying it.
