SFC & DISM not working

W11 SP6 2621.2428. After last update, I cannot get SFC or DISM commands to run in terminal Admin. I enter the command and then the cursor blinks and does nothing. No error codes. Is it necessary to update powershell to ver 7xx, I am on 5xxx? Went to link mentioned below, above my pay grade

When a recent update may be the culprit, try uninstalling the update and test results. If the issue is resolved, wait for the next update and check if the problem is resolved.

PS; Using PowerShell "sfc /scannow" worked without the recent update, so that does not appear to be the issue on my system.

Press the Windows key +X and choose Terminal (Admin) then type

DISM /Online /CLEANUP-IMAGE /CheckHealth Press Enter,Then type

DISM /Online /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RestoreHealth
Once that completes, then type

SFC /scannow and press Enter.. Give it several minutes to start.

I just ran a scan (sfc /scannow) on this notebook with the latest MS update and it only took about 2 minutes so, it works.





Try to install it and see if it rectifies your problem.

Does it work in plain old... C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe ...when run as Admin?

Try executing SFC command from Safe Mode or different user account.

Adding some additional details. When trying DISM or SFC, the cursor blinks but nothing else happens. I cannot even type exit as it appears to be hung? I have to close the window. Additionally, when I check for updates, "checking for updates" runs continuously.

I looked at services, "Windows Modules Installer" and it was running. My default setting is manual? Rebooted and immediately went back to services and it is running. So I executed a STOP and then RUN and went back to try SFC and it ran as normal. DISM also acted normal. Ran sfc /scannow and DISM checks, no errors! Rebooted and checked the services and the windows modules installer was not running.

Checked for updates several minutes later and was greeted with 22621.2506 downloading. It install with no issue and the normal SFC and DISM commands worked as normal, no errors.

What "fixed" it not sure, but for now working fine. Tx for all the suggestions and help.

I had this identical problem not many months ago. I tried all these things to fix it but nothing worked. As a last resort I tried a Repair Install Upgrade to repair it and that worked.
