I have done nothing on Yahoo in last couple of years, went to the Yahoo account deletion page, and read in the cautionary note that

:scream: because of the limited number of names, my Yahoo name could be reused :scream:

Anyone in the same boat?

I thought gmail had generally been the replacement for most peoples emails over the last however many years, Yeah i know there are others out there and people do use them but i'd say Gmail was probably the most common, It is the one i use personally.
Outlook is another people would probably recommend, I have an outlook account for work things etc but other than that i wouldn't pee on it if it was on fire xD. Nothing wrong with it really, But yeah. xD

I've never transfered my Yahoo mail over to my Gmail account, but I have the same name for both of them, which would make it easier. The only real problem I have with Yahoo is, everytime I open it up in my browser, it's shouts politics.

I am sure it would do no harm to keep it on the system in case you ever need it, if it's still alive.

Folks, the real issue is misuse of my Yahoo name if it is reused :scream:
It could lead to a reuse of my Yahoo email address :scream:

On the other hand, keeping the Yahoo account/email address feels like keeping a dead mouse in the attic :scream:

I cannot recall exactly why but I used to have a Yahoo account at one time years ago which I was advised to close due to some serious security problems with the company.

I can recall that it did take over from AOL as the main transmission medium for spam a few years ago so unless you have a good reason that requires a Yahoo account ( it was at one time a requirements for some services )I would advise that you seriously consider closing the account(s)

As for the "Reuse" statement when closing the account, I would suggest that this is a standard safety clause for the company, It would apply to generic names rather than real names ie. BlueBear rather than Fred Bloggs @ Yahoo, although even in the case of the second one there are a lot of people who have the same name quite legitimately, so if the name is available Yahoo would have the right to re-issue it if required by a second user after the first closed their account

Probably just a scare tactic, I really doubt they would ever allow your "exact" name to be used again.

Well, scare tactic or otherwise, it is scary in my case.

I was active on Yahoo in its heyday and even created a special interest group there. But Yahoo closed down all groups a couple of years ago (the special interest group migrated elsewhere) and along with the general decline of Yahoo, my Yahoo account/email address became completely dormant since then. However, it WAS quite visible.

Eventually, everything fades, even on the net. Maybe it is a matter of how long to wait to get rid of the dead mouse :scream:

I've had a Yahoo account for a billion years. I use it for the customized home page and I used to participate in a mainframe-oriented Yahoo group that went away with the rest of the groups. I can't remember the last time I checked my Yahoo mail. It's just there and I pretty much ignore it. Someday it will probably die and I won't miss it.
