Solved ShareX - Screen capture, file sharing and productivity tool

ShareX has an excellent built-in Image Viewer with exceptional rendering!
However, the only way you can invoke an instance is to navigate to the ShareX system tray icon menu/Tools/Image viewer... then browse for the image.
So..., I've created right click menu entries to invoke an instance of the Viewer and the Editor.
(I add them to the Root of the Registry because I want them to recognize any file object)

I'm just on Canary.

I'm going one better on the Open with... thing, but, I think it only works on Windows 10!

Stay tuned......

Anyway...
If you open an extension auto_file key, example: jpeg_auto_file, in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT...
... first change the Command to "C:\Program Files\ShareX\ShareX.exe" -ImageViewer "%1"
then change the Open > FriendlyAppName to ShareX Image Viewer...

0004256.png

... and do so with other extensions...

you will also eventually see ShareX as a choice in the Default chooser menu...

0004251.png

Can't get it to work in Windows 11 though cuz there are no xxx_auto_file keys!!! 🤷‍♂️

ShareX full screen renderer is immaculate!!! (The following uploaded screenshot does it no justice!!!)
However, it's just a viewer with navigation via the Sidebars or mouse wheel. There's no right click, Ctrl or Shift click options!
Any click or key escapes the preview.

The custom Open with... tweak from Post #41 will still work in Windows 11 though...,
I just wanted to make it a one click thing! 🤷‍♂️

Not impressed with ShareX.

I'll use Windows native tools. They are fairly simple to use.

Each to their own. I now use ShareX as my main capture tool and think it's very good. The only thing that's iffy with it is scrolling capture. It's a bit hit or miss so I use PickPick for that.2023-03-10 18 07 46.jpg

That part is a deal breaker for me. I constantly scroll through image sets via mouse wheel, for one thing.

I use IrfanView or ImageGlass for viewing. Mostly IfranView as I can easily get access to editing tools for it for simple markup, including text labels.

The only thing that's iffy with it is scrolling capture.
Especially with web pages! You gotta pick the region carefully trying not to include floating elements.

@Ewin That's why it would stop scrolling at random times but PickPick just bulldozes on. Even with the notification pop-up showing up.

A very handy upgraded feature in ShareX Dev is the ability to capture window elements/window buttons...

000331.png 000332.png

Now I use it to snag album art straight from YouTube PIP elements, works great...
