It really doesn't matter.
Win 10 will be supported until 2025, and if there's a speed difference between Win 10 and Win 11... I don't see it.

You can also... hang out in Eleven Forum and keep reading about Win 11 and it's problems and changes... and make a decision later.

You can "try" Windows 11 also.

Make a full OS image backup of Windows 10, then update or upgrade to Windows 11.
If you like Win 11...stay on it, if you don't, just restore from your Windows 10 backup.

I run both Win 10 and Win 11. Even Windows 11 (RTM), is still in the testing stage, and we are the guinea pigs.
At present, Windows 10 seems less stupid, than Windows 11. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same. :)

Speed isn’t the importing aspect of using Win11

One of the great things about ElevenForum is that you "can" walk a mile in another man's shoes...

And here is all the Microsoft sales pitches for Windows 11. Aka, why they think you should upgrade.

Performance - well I haven't noticed any difference but others have reported 11 is faster and others have reported 11 is slower. Why don't you just upgrade and then make up your own mind as you have the option to revert back within 10 days after upgrading.

It's really a no brainer in my book.

Hi there
If you have to ask the question then you don't need to bother.

Most upgraders at the moment are doing it simply to test it, see if their computer will run it, work out ways of running it on "incompatible hardware" or simply "just because they can".

If you have a perfectly good functioning computer that does what you want it to do and aren't a "tinkerer" then just leave it.

W11 is still in a bit of a transitory stage currently. This question might be more interesting several months later as the final requirements for W11 become clearer. Currently Ms is even offering Virtual Machine images of W11 that break all their own rules -- no TPM, running on MBR and no secure boot for starters plus booting up on about a zillion "non approved cpu's" usinf HYPER-V, VMWare and VBOX.

If you DO upgrade - take a backup first so you can restore easily - don't rely on Ms for backup / reversion back to W10. Programs like Free Macrium make backing up the system a cinch.

cheers

It is up to you when you upgrade. I took the plunge last week and think I will stay with it on this computer. At first look I had to find some things but, I actually haven't had time to explore much because I have been busy. I know it runs smooth and works with all the apps I had installed on Windows 10 so that's a good sign for me to stay.
Check this forum daily and then make your decision.

cheers

I have upgraded and also did a clean installation.

With the upgrade my Multifunction Canon printer continued to work fine including
the scanner.

With a clean installation, I had considerable difficulty in installing the printer and
getting the scanner function to work.

I would therefore not recommend a clean installation.

Connect your peripherals such as printer and scanner and once they have been installed
you can make a backup image with Macrium Reflect and then do an Upgrade to Win 11.

If you do not like to restore the win 10 image.

There is a time limited option of rolling back to win 10 without use of a third party
software such as Macrium but I have not used it.

If it's a new computer, I suggest that you
1). Take an image with a tool like Macrium Reflect Free
2). Upgrade to WIndows 11 and see if you like it or you have any problems.

Restore if necessary.

In what way is 11 better?

About the only thing I can think of is the new window snap feature, which I may never use.

I have upgraded, but I'm not seeing any significant practical benefit.

There are a lot of improvements in 11, just because you cannot see them, doesn't mean they are not there. Much has been posted and published about the advantages.

If it's a new computer, I suggest that you
1). Take an image with a tool like Macrium Reflect Free
2). Upgrade to WIndows 11 and see if you like it or you have any problems.

Restore if necessary.
This is the best advice.

Forget other people - make your own mind up.

So i just bought a new laptop and now i can upgrade to windows 11 but should i upgrade or stay with windows 10 for now? Hows the performance with windows 11? I have an acer laptop
I have personally not found Win11 to be any "better" than Win10. I have both installed on this desktop which I upgraded recently to be able to run Win11. I see no difference in performance whatsoever between Win10 and Win11, and I also have seen no new features to make Win11 "better".

I only use it because I personally like using the most current Windows version, which is also why I have been an Insider since the very beginning.

But ... this is entirely a subjective, personal choice. As others have said, make an image backup using Macrium Reflect, do the upgrade -- and then decide on your own if is it "better" for you.

Bryan, it is your decision. Not mine. Not @Ghot's; however, he gives some very good advice. Nor is it anyone else's. It's your decision. :)

And now, I would suggest that you read everything that's posted here and elsewhere on ElevenForum. At the bottom of this page, you will see "Similar threads". I would suggest you read those.

If your laptop has enough storage space, you may want to dual boot between Windows 10 and 11. I'm pretty sure there's a tutorial on dual booting in this forum if you haven't done it before. (I never buy a laptop with a less than 500 GB HDD/SSD drive for the very purpose of dual booting.) With a dual boot system, it's much easier to compare 10 & 11.

Be prepared to find that you may not like everything Microsoft has done, or you may think you've died and gone to Heaven! Sometimes I think I died and went to H E double toothpick! Sometimes I think if I could get my fingers around the scrawny neck of that one coder, he'd be history! On the other paw, maybe I'd suggest a nice fat raise for that other coder over there.

Above all, have fun and don't take things other people say too seriously. There are probably as many opinions as there are members in this forum.
