There is a promise made by Microsoft in Settings -> Windows Update

"Windows Update is determined to help lower carbon emissions." (This is a translation by me. It may not be true word-for-word. Sorry for that.)

Carbon.webp

While trying to build ISO from UUPDump, Microsoft AntiMalware Service Executable consumes more than 81% of CPU power out of 98%. Other processes, including UUPDump processes, only consume 17%.

AntiMW.webp

With this in mind, how will Windows Update (Microsoft is pointed to here) be able to help lower carbon emissions ?

Can someone please explain the underlying details of Microsoft's promise to me ?

The implication is a real feature description published by Microsoft, but users widely view it as corporate greenwashing with a negligible real-world impact. The mechanism itself works as described, but its actual benefit to the planet is tiny compared to the massive hardware e-waste caused by Windows 11 system requirements.
In other words, tree-hugging bullsh*t!!!
