made a custom Home page html a couple decades ago, I can tweak it easily with notepad++++. I use these on all my computers (not my phone). a few outdated links there,, but no big deal.

I was not aware you can about:blank in Google Chrome?
I just get the default tab loading page which is Google Chrome's search page of some kind.

Settings > On Startup > Open a specific page or set of pages > add a new page > about:blank > Add

DOH!! OK, I just realised I'm talking about the opening page, not the Home page. I never use the Home page button (it's removed from the toolbar) but for the "Home" option, I've set up a shortcut favourite/bookmark button for about:blank as well. When I want to open a new (blank) page, I just right click on this shortcort icon > Open in a new tab/window

Double Doh!! Really, I've heard of so-called "seniors moments" but had been thinking, at 78, I've dodged that bullet ... Nuh Uh!

It would have helped if I was doing that testing actually using Chrome, but no, It just looked good IN BRAVE!!! In Chrome, I still use that bookmark/favourites button about:blank > right-click > Open in etc

Yes, I do know that, I have been using About:blank for Firefox for 15+ years..
its Google Chrome I am talking about...
the new tabs button doesn't create about:blanks.. but the default search window..

I had a search through flags settings but there's nothing there. Given it's Google, I suspect it's a bit of marketing not to be able to change that particular setting (and now the pedant in me comes out and says that if it can't be changed, then it's not a "setting" :sneaky: !

too bad..
Google Chrome has some good features.. but lacking in other ways...
the login/password manager is awesome and quite feature rich.
