Hello.
I have a small annoyance with a small and unimportant bug.
However, I've been trying to understand why this happens for months.
The thing is that the small account icon in search appears and disappears.
Typically the profile photo icon in search appears during the night and disappears around lunch time.
However, this may not be the case, as it may not appear for a whole night or even a whole day and suddenly it reappears.
I always have my Microsoft account connected and my PC is allways on.
This has been happening for a long time and have survived to some major updates and even some in place repairs that I made for other reasons.
Obviously it's not a big problem by itself but I'd like to understand why.

Any ideas are welcome.

What happens when you change to a different account image/avatar?

I never changed the image.
It's been my profile picture for over a decade.
It is out of the question to think about changing it ;-) !!!

No one is asking you to keep the change.
Change it temporarily, it might be corrupted.

Make sure to log out from all devices connected with MS account, including mail & phone.

You do have a copy of the pic just in case something was to happen to the original?

Hello!

Yes, after a lot of searching I found the original on an external disk, with many other photos.
So I edited a new copy of the photo and changed it in the account profile.
So far so good, but I won't know for sure until tomorrow.
Then I will post the result here.

I hope that solves your problem. I know for me it would cause my OCD to kick in.

Hello Again!

Still no luck.
New photo uploaded yesterday afternoon, at first it remained on the search profile icon account until today morning.
As soon as i start using the PC the photo disappeared again.
It's strange, because it has a time cycle.
In 8 or 9 hours, come back again.
Perhaps it is linked to some task that run daily.
Some time ago I searched on Google and there was a report from a user with the exact same problem.
The small profile photo appeared and disappeared with the same time interval.
So far the problem remains unsolved.
The small account photo allways appears in Start, Windows Store and Outlook without any problem.
Just is Search keep comes and goes.
Mystery.

I'm not in the habit of using the search option on the Taskbar so I never took notice. I just used it to see if my user pic was being used and it wasn't. I have a capital A instead. I think Windows is using the "a" because it's the first character of my email address. I'll keep checking to see if it changes. If it does then this is a bug in Windows and will need to be fixed by MS.
