Snipping tool - How to open it directly after snipping?

I have /thoughts/ about this saving screenshots issue

I take lots of screenshots regularly. Having to hit windows+shift+S, then click on the notification, then hit ctrl+s, then confirm the save location (yes, it will go to the same place as previously saved-to, i think, but i still have to check everytime in case it decides to save it somewhere else, or tbh if i accidentally change the location as i'm trying to save it lol and then I can't find the saved screenshot again)

I use windows 10 on my desktop and at work, and I also use a macbook pro regularly. On mac when you do the screenshot key combination command+shift+5 (i believe. can't remember it's muscle memory) it will automatically save it to a designated folder as an image, and it also gives a pop up notification in the corner showing a thumbnail, which you are able to click on to open the screenshot to edit it, or just leave it and it goes away.

All this to say, I don't really notice much of a difference between my windows and mac experience, like yeah they're different, but i like both and know how to deal with each one's quirks.

but this screenshot thing! really bugs me lol it's way more convenient on a mac, i just want windows to save screenshots automatically 😭

I screenshot lots for like moodboarding, inspiration, technical info, anything i'll want to reference later.

Sometimes I browse through them and it's liek a scrapbook looking back at everything, highly recommend. and helpful to remember stuff I wanted to look up!

I have a link to the Snipping Tool on my Taskbar.

I left click the shortcut and choose the option I want and click on New. Once my snip is done, and everything disappears, I again left click on the shortcut, which brings up what I've snipped. Ctrl S (Save as) and choose where to save my clip.

The most recent update for Snipping tool in Windows 11 has several options you should look at.

I have it attached to the PrtScrn button, so I use that. It gives me the usualy options for screenshots (rectangular area, free form, specific app window or entire desktop), and once I've selected the area I want or click on the app window I want, it takes the screenshot and saves it directly to the folder I've chosen - \Pictures\Screenshots, in my case.

It's every bit as simple as what you describe on your Mac, and with me employing the PrtScrn button, it's even less buttons to use.

Well, duhhhhhhhh! I've never paid attention to those three dots at the top of the Snipping Tool! Sheesh!

The one thing that I'm not sure of . . . Automatically save screenshots. Because I use screenshots in tutorials for my students, I don't want the "shot" default name saved; I want to rename it for clarity.

Am I misunderstanding something here?

Nope - it uses the format Screenshot {full date and time}.png

I normally don't edit in Snipping tool anyway, using IrfanView (for easy editing) and Paint.net (for complex editing), and if need be, I can rename then.

But for simple stuff, I don't even bother, as, with the screenshots folder set to arrange by date, I can easily find and attach screenshots - that folder on my system has over 1000 screenshots in it lol.
