Snipping tool saves screenshots even when automatically save screenshots is off

When I screenshot something Snipping tool still saves the screenshot despite having "Automatically save screenshots" setting turned off.

When I click "edit in paint" in snip, it seems to save the file to this location: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState\Snips

Is there a way to not make it save the screenshots there? Only real way around this is to Snip > Copy > Open paint > Paste.

In snipping tool>3 dots>settings>I have only 2 toggled on
automatically copy changes
ask to save edited screenshots

When I take a snip I have the option of opening in paint OR "save as". It's a little icon that looks like a floppy disk on the toolbar. I can name the snip and save it wherever I want.

In the last few days, I must have ran into at least a half a dozen threads about how convoluted and screwed up Windows 11 Snipping Tool and Screen Snip is!!! What gives??? 🤷‍♂️

The screenshots still will show in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState\Snips with these settings, at least for me, although it doesn't save screenshots at C:\Users\[username]\Pictures\Screenshots anymore.
