im playing Solider of Fortune: Platinum Edition on a Radeon RX 5500 XT with the latest 25.8.1 drivers on Windows 11 27909. im for certain the game is OpenGL. Using the Andrenalin software, i have Anti-Aliasing force enabled by using the "override application" option. i also jave super sampling enabled with anti-aliasing set to x8EQ.

when playing soldier of fortune, it doesnt appear to apply any anti-aliasing to the game. theres no anti-aliasing options in-game and pcgamingwiki mentions that Adrenalin can force enable anti-aliasing

does anyone know why anti-aliasing would not get applied to games? i may have noticed this in other games as well

What is the DPI of your monitor ?
If it is higher than around 200 dpi then anti-aliasing is not so useful. No point in your high settings as results cannot be seen, wastes resources and cuts down FPS.
Even on a low dpi monitor you really only need minimal Anti-aliasing.
It is such an old game, so that is why it won't support the simplest anti-aliasing methods.

DPI = 1366/horizontal display dimension in inches.

"do i need Temporal AA enabled for MSAA and SSAA to work?"
You only need the simplest AA (FXAA), as I said, you will not see any difference with more complex methods.

oooh i got you, i never looked at screen resolution that way lol. i thought DPI was variable and wasnt linked to resolution. i thought you meant my monitor DPI like this

with MSAA / SSAA enabled with a low resolution it only makes a little difference like you said, but does improve quality.

i remember playing around with anti aliasing and half-life 1 using 640x480 and it would make the screen very blurry when anti aliasing was enabled with such a low resolution
