Some websites are slow, all browsers

For the past month or so I'm finding some websites won't load completely. Usually I can see text but no images, and the browser indicates it's still loading. When I can see videos, they buffer. It's not on all websites, just some, most notably Facebook, and I get the same results with Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera. I've cleared cookies and cache, and turned off the few extensions I have, without effect. Speed tests all return excellent numbers (over 600 mbps download) and I can't find problems anywhere else. My PC is about a year old, i9-12900K, 32gb RAM, conneced via ethernet. I have Windows 11 25H2, build 26200.7623.

Just to complicate matters, my wife's PC with the same specs runs fine on the web on the same network.

Any help will be appreciated.

have you tried changing DNS settings
settings > network & internet > (your connection type)

then in this window
DNS assignment then click edit
set it to manual and try

preferred > 1.1.1.1
alternative > 1.0.0.1

save settings and then try your connection
best of luck Steve ..

Thank you! That seems to help right off. A site that wouldn't come up just before the change 15 minutes ago now springs up quickly. Time will tell if the improvement is across the board, but I'm hopeful.

BTW, there are two options under DNS, IPv4 and IPv6. The setting changes only work with IPv4; under IPv6 it returns "invalid entry" for both.

For IPv6 use those 2:
2606:4700:4700::1111
2606:4700:4700::1001
Same warning as given by @KevTech.
Cloudflare can be a bit stringent, but it might be for the better.

i use cloudflareWARP which adds an encrypted tunnel to your connection to their nearest DNS server
it sets up automatically for IPv4 and IPv6.

its very easy to set up and use.

Thanks for all your help, folks. This forum is an excellent source for assistance, better than any other I've found.

I'm just catching up this morning, and the set that XxXxX posted are helping so far, but I've printed this page for easy reference in case I run into any other problems.

Thanks again!

That didn't work for me. Just unchecking IPV6 did. Go to Network and Sharing Center, Ethernet, Properties and uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPV6).

Someone smarter than me might tell me what kind of trouble that could cause. In the meantime I've got my internet back.

disabling IPv6 should cause no issues
Windows looks up IPv6 first then IPv4 when no address on IPv6 can be found.

you can change priorities to get Windows to prefer IPv4 over IPv6

best of luck Steve ..

@XxXxX Thanks for the suggestion. However, when I made the registry change and restored IPv6 in the network protocols, Chrome took a while to load my Google map with a complicated route in satellite view, although Edge did fine.

So I'll file this under "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is," and revert to the previous fix which still works on both browsers.
