Someone, anyone, please deliver me from Edge Version 156.0.4314.42 I got today

After reading through this thread, I’m glad I no longer use Edge and deleted it
After reading through this thread, and others, I wish I had Edge so I could see what all the bullsh*t is about!
(In reality I'm glad I don't though!!!)

I've used Edge Chromium since it was introduced more than six years ago and Edge has always worked quite well for me.

And that’s fantastic for you and you probably use it for stuff I never would. To me, Edge is 3.5Gb of bloatware, nothing more. I use Brave browser and it does exactly what I need it to do 👍

People always say that they use that or that browser, I use all major browsers, each for a different purpose. No choice is a choice too.
Edge with policies as the main, Brave for Youtube/Google, LibreWolf for FB, Firefox as portable, Chromium for streaming, TOR for ...

Or you can just turn Edge off with: Download Edge Blocker v2.1
No need, I just utilised the EU DMA option, changed my region properly without using a single 3rd party tool and nuked Edge by uninstalling using the uninstall option. Simples!

No, it hasn’t broken anything for me and Edge doesn’t reinstall itself every time there’s a major update.

Hi @barreleye,

Have you tried opening Edge only in an In Private Window and see what happens? This could help establish whether or not the behaviour is associated with the normal browsing profile, extensions or workspace-specific features.

Before my thread on a very specific, new issue got turned into a referendum on Edge in general, I explained how non-workspace users can recover from the new blue color inflicted on them by the update to what they were using before, and how Microsoft has made that impossible for workspace users. That's in messages #13 and 14. Workspaces don't exist in InPrivate mode, so there's nothing to be learned from it, unfortunately.

MS did have a very similar issue in Edge several years back it was thought to be a problem with the actual update.

MS did have a very similar issue in Edge several years back it was thought to be a problem with the actual update.

I expect it'll be fixed, but it's remarkable that something so glaringly obvious (in the literal visual sense, lol) even makes it out the door. Another recent example was a vscode update that made almost all variables orange; function parameters, locals, you name it. Source code became mostly a giant sea of orange, ugly and defeating the purpose of syntax highlighting. Just instantly obvious to everyone. But it still got pushed out through the normal channel. I'm going to see if I can report this on Feedback Hub and also google if there's a more direct way to report Edge bugs.

ETA: Just found the "Help and feedback" menu item in Edge.

I am correct in assuming you know you can send feedback directly to the Edge Team by hitting Alt + Shift + I from inside Edge?

I'm fortunate that with the hardware and software I use, in over six years of using Edge, I've never had a problem. Have you tried the New look slider? This is what my default Edge looks like with the slider turned ON.

From your screenshot, you don't appear to be using workspaces, and I explained it's a workspace problem. Also, this is at least the second time you've invoked your "years of seniority" in using Edge (though it went from 5 years to 6 overnight, congrats on the anniversary - lol), or however you think of it, and it isn't relevant. As I see it, you're not making any effort to understand what's been posted, you're implying that "I'm an experienced user and don't have a problem so it must be you", and you're throwing random, irrelevant suggestions at me that have nothing to do with anything.

I'm sorry you found my suggestion of turning the New look slider ON irritating. I thought it might help with your color problem.

Edge Chromium was released on January 15, 2020, and I installed it on that date. So, it looks like it's actually been six years.

Good luck in finding help.

It was your fourth post in the thread, and reviewing now, actually your THIRD mention of "how long you've been using Edge", but it was the huge screenshot people have to wade through that pushed me over the edge (pun intended) to reply. The thread had come to a conclusion, and then that, along with the other things I mentioned in my last post. Seriously... I hope you're able to get where I'm coming from.

I see at least part of where Microsoft messed up. Look closely at the screenshot from my post #12, which pertains to Edge profiles that use workspaces:

1793157116317.webp

Now compare it to the corresponding part of the screenshot from post #13, which pertains to Edge profiles that do NOT use workspaces:

1793157186699.webp

See how the workspace Settings is missing a dark circle at its far left? From left to right, its theme circles are labeled by tooltips:
  1. Default neutral
  2. Blue
  3. Cool grey
OTOH, the non-workspace Settings goes:
  1. Default neutral
  2. Default branded (looks similar to neutral, but the light part is a subtly different shade)
  3. Blue
  4. Cool grey
One issue is that workspace "Default neutral" is actually a blue-ish shade that doesn't appear in non-workspaces, and the traditional darker grey theme I'd been using, which is "Default neutral" in non-workspace Settings, doesn't exist anywhere in the workspace theme dialog. I mean, the label's there, but the theme attached to the icon is wrong. The label (and theme) "Default branded" doesn't exist in the workspace theme settings at all. The two Setttings dialogs start agreeing on the "Blue" icons. In summary, there are 14 theme circles for workspace profiles and 15 for non-workspace profiles, workspace profiles have a mis-themed "Default neutral" that is a unique blue shade, and workspace profiles lack the darker gray option available to non-workspace profiles.

As for the garish, bright red hover cover in vertical and pinned tabs, no clue how that got through. It appears to be totally sui generis. lol
