Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8457)
For the last month or so, I have been trying to download an update for the free version of DaVinci Resolve through MS Edge, my default browser. Each time, I received an "unconfirmed download" instead of the ZIP file I was supposed to get. I wrote to Black Magic, the makers of DaVinci Resolve, but they replied that because I do not have the paid version, they could not help me.

I was stuck after trying several other download methods. However, the other day I received a Windows update for Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8457). I also checked MS Edge and confirmed I had the latest version. I decided to try the download again, and it worked on the first try.

In all the years I have used this program, I have never had any issues downloading updates for DaVinci Resolve. Sometimes these updates actually do make things work better!

Seems like you've got a broken browser after all, and the update also bundled a new Edge version. Happy coincidence.

For me, updates that included noticeable changes also caused problems, specially in recent versions, so I disabled them as soon as I finished insalling Windows.

Hi Alejandro85 -
My own take is that possibly a lot of software companies get told ahead of time of the changes that MS is making with their update, and they make the changes to their own apps to compensate. In the meantime, it takes MS some time to roll out the updates to everyone so then a problem exists until the MS update is released and used. Another benefit was that I was using a password manager that was also malfunctioning in both Edge and Chrome but straightened out once I installed the MS update! I am just guessing here.

Hi BarryGuff -
The problem was that my default browser is currently Edge. I used to use Chrome as my default browser for years, but one day sometime in the last year, they rearranged all my bookmarks and got rid of some after a Chrome update. I then switched to Edge, but that took some time as each default browser tenaciously tries to hold on to being the default. When I clicked the update link directly from the DaVinci Resolve app, it kept going to Edge as my default browser. I didn't want to switch the default back to Chrome, knowing the change would not simply be switch and switch back. Also, I had no guarantee that Chrome wasn't compromised, as well.
I'm glad the MS update finally fixed that.
