Just hit a wall and can't resolve. Tried troubleshooting with the usual YouTube vids after reinstalling drivers for both fireface and firewire.

Summary:

  • Everything had been running fine for months until a reboot tonight.
  • Windows 11 latest updates - device manager both firewire interface and fireface 800 working and properties all good no issues, yellow exclamation marks etc.
  • Everything has been working until a recent reboot and I'd changed sample settings to 48 from 44khz in the rme properties page. (Tried changing back - rebooting etc no joy).
  • Run any windows native app and no sound. As fireface is not showing as a windows device, it also doesn't show in preferences for any apps.
  • Checked sound devices and only the motherboard interface is showing (Digital Audio SPDiF).
  • I cannot get the rme fireface to show in device manage as under audio input/outputs and only the digital audio SPDiF shows up.
  • System devices can see RME Fireface 800 under Bluetooth & devices > Devices - green icon - just cant seem to do anything with it.
  • All wires connected and every light showing as it should be on the fireface unit.
  • Windows audio input and output troubleshooter does nothing and of course cant see the fireface anyhow!
  • I cannot see any windows updates that have installed since when working (rebooted yesterday) that would impact it as predates the reboot when working.

HOWEVER (Which is the good news)
Windows 11 running Cubase 12.0.30 - launch Cubase and sound playback absolutely fine.

Run any native app ie chrome, edge, foosbar, spotify etc no sound. No options in system tray aside from the spdif out.

Anyone help please (will post on the usual windows forum also and come back to help).

Really odd.

After going aronud in circles and if anyone else stumbles on this thread with the same issue - my solution:
Goto Device Manager
Removed all sound devices by uninstalling drivers and NOT ticking the remove drivers from the system.
Reboot without reinstalling.
Voila - it all comes back.

That's one of the standard audio troubleshooting things. Uninstall/reinstall the device.

I use Cakewalk and Studio One 4.6 for my DAW's.

Yes thanks Id actually uninstalled the RME and reinstalled - to expand a little I have other interfaces e Virus TI/Maschine and the onboard Nvidia GFX HDMI sound output - all of which had vanished. Effectively from my end it appears the unsintallation of all leaving the drivers in place on the system - the drivers reinstalled themselves successfully on the reboot without me doing a thing. Which was great. Thanks for the confirmation - appreciate.
