Start Menu Folders

Hi,

I'm running Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.7623), and an annoying change I noticed recently is how the Start Menu displays folders now.
Instead of opening a drop-down, it opens an Apple-style box to display the applications inside the folder. While it's okay for most applications, I noticed that it's not very ergonomic for applications with longer titles.

In the screenshot I've attached, many of the names are cut off. I was hoping that changing the setting to a 'List' view would help, but it stays the same.
Does anyone have any workarounds, or does Microsoft plan to change the Start Menu further?

Thanks

I guess my search terms are not worded right either because I didn't find any threads. Can you point us to one?

@protegee5165 TBH I rarely use the start menu and hadn't even noticed it. Have you tried renaming one of those folders that has a truncated name to a shorter name?

I didn't even notice that about the start menu folders.

If you're not happy with how the start menu works for you, then I suggest you try a third party option. We'll all be dead before Microsoft get the start menu right.

Microsoft had the Start Menu right in Windows XP. Thankfully you can get that back by using Open-Shell. That's what I do, and I love it dearly.

This layout in this particular OP image has nothing to do with the recent changes to the Start menu layout. The example shown is simply a collection of related shortcuts in a subject folder, created either by the installed software program and/or by the users. They can (and always have been) easily "re-arranged" withing the (hidden) folder structures
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
and/or
C:\Users\(user name)Greg\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

However, the restructure of the Start menu by Microsoft is inconvenient, and does take a bit of getting used to (which, I must say, didn't take long). I've long been a staunch critic of Microsoft's arbitrary changes, but this time .... meh!
