Solved Start menu is behaving very erratically

My start menu is erratic. When I click on it, it pops up 2 - 3 seconds later. Its not consistent. And I found that all my custom icons are gone. Its like the icons have reverted to the default ones like solitaire, snipping tool, etc. How do i fix this rubbish?

Don't know about the delay but certain start menu app icons will revert to default every time the app updates. That includes Windows apps like notepad and calculator that have shortcut icons, Chrome browser and several others. You'll have to reset the icons again after updating if you want to keep them custom.

So how do I stop the menu from delaying? Also when it comes up it stays for 3 seconds then disappears and I try to click on the icons and none of the programs come up.. How do i fix this?

If you're using any 3rd party Start Menu tweakers... you might want to remove them temporarily and see if that helps.

Well, there's always an In-Place Upgrade... it fixes Windows problems but leaves you programs, files and drivers untouched.

You can try turning off the 'Recommendations for Tips' and 'Show Recommended Files' in the start settings in the Settings App. It's weird but I've seen this work a few times before, especially on HP laptops.
