StartAllBack won't let me delete a specific start menu entry

  • Latest version of StartAllBack works great on the Windows "admin" LogonID. But there's a strange behavior on a 2nd Windows LogonID (non-admin) ... I cannot remove the start menu entry for Microsoft Edge. Edge is virtually never used on either LogonID. It's not pinned to the start menu. It's not started automatically when the user logs in to Windows. Looking thru all the processes on the system, it's not running. But I simply cannot remove its start menu entry.

I tried turning StartAllBack off and on again for this LogonID ... didn't fix it. I went to Settings >>Apps and asked that Edge re-install itself ... didn't fix it.

This is more an annoyance than anything else ... but I would still like to resolve this.

    Thanks!

If you're talking about the start menu programs list, you can just delete the shortcut for Edge from
%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Thank you for your help on this. Perhaps I did not use the correct term for where Microsoft Edge is appearing in StartAllBack. The problem is not within the start menus which Windows maintains in the folders you mentioned ... it's OK if Edge appears there.

The problem is in what appears when I initially click on the StartAllBack "button" on the lower left of the screen. A "menu" appears ... and that's what I called the "start menu." On the left are those programs / apps which most recently used and any other program / app which I choose to pin there. On the right are a series of other things which StartAllBack allows me to control. The problem I'm experiencing is on the left-hand side of this.

I can remove nearly every item here by right-clicking it and asking StartAllBack to remove it. I have nothing pinned on the left-hand side. Microsoft Edge is always the first entry ... it's not pinned ... it's not open ... it's not started at Logon time. But I cannot remove this line.

I right-click it and it presents the option to remove it. I left-click that option ... but this does nothing.

Just an annoyance. Thanks again for your help ...

Bob.

Are you sure you're talking about StartAllBack? I don't see anything like what you mentioned.

Positive. I bought it for about $5 and it's installed on my wife's Windows 11 computer. As I said, the problem only appears on one of the LogonIDs (the non-admin one which my wife uses). It does not appear on the admin ID I use to maintain the system.

If I knew where StartAllBack kept the info for this I could peek in there and see what I can see. I poked around, but can't find where this info is stored (either in a StartAllBack folder or in the Registry).

Can you post a screenshot? I have StartAllBack on three different computers and I don't see what you described. I don't even have the StartAllBack button. I access StartAllBack by right clicking on the Taskbar and selecting Properties. I can also access it through Control Panel.

What I called the StartAllBack button is merely the start button (orb) on the lower left of the Windows screen. When I click it the StartAllBack menu opens. And the only thing on the left side of the menu is Microsoft Edge. I cannot delete it.

Problem solved! In preparation for re-installation, I was going thru the StartAllBack settings taking note of everything I had set to use those same settings after I re-installed. When I came to the StartAllBack "Advanced" settings tab, I noticed a pair of buttons which I had not noticed before ... they are used to clear the info Windows had stored on "most recently used" programs and items. I clicked both buttons. And when I looked, the entry for Edge was gone. I re-booted to make sure it stayed that way ... and it stayed that way ... no entry for Edge. So there was no need to re-install.

But your suggestion led me to the "solution" even though it wasn't how I was expecting it to happen.

This also explains why I couldn't find any StartAllBack files or registry entries where it kept this info ... because Windows kept it.

I don't exactly know why right-clicking the Edge entry and then left-clicking the option to remove it selecting would not actually remove it. But it's gone now ... so I'm putting this to bed.

Thanks again!

bob

That explains why I didn't see what you were seeing. I never selected any of the three setting. I'm glad you were able to solve your problem.

I assume that StartAllBack takes advantage of Windows Explorer's "UserAssist" info in the registry to present the information on most recently used programs / apps.
