Still trying to weed the All apps menu; any news?

The Start menu (18-icon display) is the W11 version of the Tiles display, but different in many ways. I never used the Tiles menu, and I got rid of all the tiles and shrank the Start menu to the narrowest possible, so that I only saw the folders I'd created and the contents of those folders. The All aps menu is just not what we'd like it to be: there are too many Apps (Store apps) with their own lines, and there's no obvious way to create a folder called something like "Apps" and put all those shortcuts into it.

Anybody discovering new ways to make the All apps menu the way it OUGHT to be?

I've just don't use it anymore
Removed all apps pinned on it so it's just blank until ms makes it like win-10s so that it can display all apps list and that's it.

I just pin to taskbar and desktop shortcuts items I use often.
Guess I could put all desktop items in a folder to clean it up a bit like badrobot

The start menu in Windows 11 does expand and will allow you to scroll vertically through several pages of icons rather than just the initial 18. The number of pages depends on how many shortcuts you pin to the start menu.

You can access the pages by using the scroll wheel on your mouse or use the Dot menu that appears on the right side of the page.



I find this less than ideal though and I would like to see the Windows 10 menu return. At least you could see all of your icons on one page, useful when you have a lot of 3rd party programs installed.

The All Apps link is rather horrible IMHO, no matter how you use it.

You can of course, right click on an Icon > More > Open file location and then organise the shortcuts as you want them. Try not to bury them in endless folders though, as they may not show up.

You may need to reboot or restart explorer.exe before any changes to the All Apps menu will take effect though.

There are several locations for the shortcuts:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
C:\Users\ YOUR USER NAME \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
