Stop requiring pin after wake up

For a little over a week now my computer has started to make me type in a pin every time it goes to sleep. It's annoying and I don't want it. I have tried changing it to never but it's now greyed out when it wasn't before. I tried putting that command in the command prompt and going in to the registry and changing it and it still does it! My son's computer is worse. Mine won't do it for several hours but the last couple days his makes him put in a pin after an hour or less of not using it. He has windows 10, I have 11. I think it must be something to do with the last update because we didn't change anything and it started for us in the last few days to a little over a week.

Is there any way to fix this?

I had a problem with there being to accounts on startup. One asked for a password that never worked and the other for a pin. I don't want a pin or a password to start up but couldn't get the password account off. Now, the password account has disappeared but now I have this new problem.

As for what version I'm confused. I bought it from Dell a year ago and it cam with windows 11. But when I open winver it shows this: [Version 10.0.22623.891

I don't know a lot about computers. I don't think I have modern standby. I've tried the elevated windows terminal and I get this:

I do not have a Microsoft Account set up, only Local Account with Administrative Rights.

I have a Win10 Desktop with a Microsoft Account Login but have disabled Sleep and Hibernation on it but will use the Lock feature and have to enter the PIN.

Just in case there are corrupt files or other issues you could try running the tuneup.bat file. This contains a series of Microsoft Windows commands to clean up and restsore the health of your computer. It takes about 15 minutes to complete.

I have a Microsoft account, so I might be misguiding you, but we'll see . . .

Start>Settings>Accounts>Sign-in Options> Now click on PIN (Windows Hello). There will be two choices: Change PIN or Remove this sign-in option.

Hopefully, when you remove the "PIN sign-in option" you won't get the problem any more.

You DO NOT need to run that "tuneup.bat" app. In fact, being you're a novice, I'd advise against it.

@Dru2 - I never said that the OP needs to run tuneup.bat. I said "you could try running the tuneup.bat file". The commands it contains are all Windows commands and the file source is from The Windows 10 forum originally. I am not saying it will fix the issues but there is no harm in running it and being a novice has no bearing on how the batch file carries out its commands. The batch file will run its course and I think the user only has to "Press any key to exit" the command window at the end.

Again, as the OP is a novice, I'd advise against. Especially since they have no idea what the file will do.

Additionally, this phrasing is concerning as it denotes, you're not even sure of the process...

Additionally, I see no need to try to fix something that's not broken. Microsoft designed the Pin requirement for a reason. It may be an annoyance to some, but it isn't a design flaw requiring an unknown "batch file" to be run. And you don't even indicate where said file is from, or who created it. Now if the OP wants to venture into someone's personalized bat file, that's on them, but user be warned.

At any rate there is a linked tutorial that should help the OP solve their issue. All they have to do is follow it.

Remove is greyed out.

Followed the tutorial and it didn't work. On the one option I get this:

If you've already "tried fixing Windows" via registry tweaks and stuff before trying the above, you may get any number of results now since system parameters have been changed. Sometimes we go so far as to require a fresh start.

You could try a Repair Install

My suggestion may be similar to what @wiganken proposed, but the difference is this is built into Windows so no need for hacks.

You won't lose your accounts, apps, or personal data. And completion time is about the same. That said it does require install media as explained in the tutorial.
