I just bought a 4K monitor. It looks great, but I still have my old Samsung 32 inch 1080p monitor hooked up and it has become rather fuzzy since hooking up the 4K. I expected some differences visually, of course, but it's a lot fuzzier than I would have suspected. I have gone through the Nvidia control panel and adjusted the resolutions, and I went into Settings -> Display and checked everything. All of it looks ok, but this is what my monitor looks like:

I'm not sure if you can see how fuzzy that is from this picture, but it used to be crystal clear.

Am I missing a setting or something?

Try changing the Refresh rate 60 htz uk 50 htz usa

In what order did you rehook up the monitors? I attached my 4k first and then the 1080p.. not a single issue with fuzziness

I guess it is to do with the scaling as the pixels H&W will be different between the two monitors that is because your scaling is set up for the 4K monitor

I hooked them both up at the same time with the power off to both monitors and PC. Then I turned the 4 K on, then the 1080p, then booted the PC. I have tried other combinations with no change.

@Servo Wasn't able to figure out how to change the refresh rate. :(

@The-Hive I think you might be right, but the 1080p is supposed to autoscale IIRC. Perhaps there is a setting on that monitor that I am missing. I'll check with Samsung again but I don't really expect a lot from them, TBH.

From my very limited experience of twin monitors I think it's scaling, worth looking into anyway, let us know how you get on. btw, there is plenty of info on the web about it

I managed to find the setting for changing it to 50 Hz. It seems to have taken away some of the fuzziness. It's not totally great, but I think it's about as good as it's going to get.

Thanks to all, I shall mark this as solved. :)
