Using the dictation feature in Word might be OK, but some months ago, I gave up on it because it wasb't dependable. Besides, I need it for Skype, and it wouldn't work in Skype.

Again, I guess I'll just hurry up and wait.

I saw where Sumit said it might be a server issue. Also said use Word's Dictate, but it doesn't work with Skype.

Whatever, my bashed finger doesn't quite work; substitute keeps hitting the wrong keys!

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. I'm in the USA and do not have Microsoft 365 and voice typing has worked for me consistently, I use it most days and haven't had a problem.

I have a local account and I'm on windows version 21H2 22000.918.

Here in the UK only signed in with a local account it's still working in the current RTM build for me. I've just dictated this using it.

As you can see, Voice Typing still leaves a bit to be desired; some of my dictation didn't make it into my post. Here's what it should have said:

Further, I was on the Insider Beta version of Windows 11 without any version of Microsoft Office installed. This tells me that neither Office 365 nor Microsoft 365 (or any other version) is necessary for Voice Typing to work, as @Bree and others have pointed out.

I attempted to create a local account, but neither Gmail nor Yahoo would cooperate when I tried to create an email adderss. Gmail kept telling me someone else already has that address and Yahoo kept telling me the password I had just created was wrong. Sigh.
