Support is ending for Windows Mail and Calendar​

Support for Windows Mail, Calendar, and People will end on December 31, 2024. We're currently in the process of moving existing users to the new Outlook for Windows. After December 31, 2024, users will no longer be able to send and receive email using Windows Mail and Calendar. Any local emails, calendar events, and contacts stored in Mail, Calendar, and People will remain exportable following the steps in Export emails and contacts from Windows Mail or People and import to new Outlook.

Users will continue to have the option to go back to Windows Mail and Calendar through a toggle in Settings > General > About Outlook, in the Outlook for Windows app.

This is contradictory information, it says support is ending and users won't be able to send/receive mail on the old app, but users can continue to use the old app by using the toggle

Makes no sense! If it means the toggle can be used UNTIL Dec 31st it's not very clear

Not sure about the toggle working or not after Dec. 31, but the old app will no longer work so still dead after Dec. 31.

We've been warned for a year it was coming. MS has already stopped it from working on some systens. (I never did understand how they picked and chose which systems it stopped working on early) MS even sent emails to folks about it. But my bet is there will still be a lot of people wake up to the rude awakening of it anyway.

They stopped the Mail app working on my system in mid October.
Turned out I wasn’t alone.

Unless you use another mail application to handle your email or webmail, you don't have a choice. Windows Mail & Calendar will be no more.
I do not use Outlook New myself, but according to MS it does have a calendar.

Bluemail and Thunderbird are pretty much the only viable options. Outlook New does not even support Outlook mail with 3rd party login. I have disabled outlook login for security reason, but clearly MS does not care about the security, that is saying something.

Funny thing is that OAuth2 works just fine with 3rd party apps, but not with Outlook New. Ridiculous. :nope:

But what is the most ridiculous is that I use MSA, I am logged into MSA in Edge and Outlook New is Edge app, yet it fails to recognize it.

I may be misunderstanding your meaning by this, but from what I read it can handle multiple providers just as windows mail did.

It doesn't have a united inbox. I need this feature to keep all email accounts together and read all my mail at once.

It requires outlook email to be enabled for login. I have it disabled.
People can not hack the account, if they can not login in the first place.
I use outlook for the official business, so it is known by thousands of people.

One thing I do like about New Outlook is, it will open previously opened items, as in, Mail in a separate window and Calendar in a separate window..., only problem is, it opens them on top of each other, slightly cascaded, as opposed to the state I left them in, side by side! 🤷‍♂️

May I ask why , Edwin? I ask because I hated it at first in all previous versions all the way back to when it was Outlook Express. Absolutely refused to use it. But when I was forced to give up my beloved Live Mail, it came down to Classic or TB. It took me a while of digging around in it but I actually got it's interface pretty darned close to looking and acting like my Live Mail did...with extras.

Now, when MS does away with Classic and forces us to go to Outlook New as they say they are going to do sometime in the future, I'll be singing a different song. If I live that long, I can only hope pressure from corporate America can save it.

Long term though I know TB is an overall better choice since it will be developed as long as there is a Mozilla. I like it and even though one can configure it to do most anything, it can be overwhelming to most people. There's so many settings I can't remember them from one time to the next. I think my biggest peeve is TB interface is not as clean as Classic.

I've never looked into BlueMail.

LOL I'm with you. I'm only one step above paper. I use one running sticky note on my desktop. The only "events" I have to keep up with anymore are doctor's appointments and my next haircut. I don't even have to remember birthdays anymore since I've outlived everyone important. I live an exciting life.

Although, the Office 2024 version is quite a bit cleaner looking..., and, the sidebars actually open in Word, etc., unlike the New Outlook, which re-directs you to the internet, unless you have 365, of course!!!

That's right. I have then both (that is, Outlook from 365 and the Outlook (new) . The Outlook from 365 contains .PST directly synchronised from Gmail so all my mail is automatically backuped in an offline .PST file. Which has preserved all my mails since April 11th, 1999.
