Windows 11
I’m using a Lenovo All-In-One running Windows 11. Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6584)

My issues started about 5 months ago, I have 2 months left on warranty.

The problem: Any time the machine is put into sleep mode for an hour or two it automatically reboots. Sometimes while I’m using it it will crash, and then reboot. Quite bothersome. I contacted Lenovo support, I was encouraged to reinstall the OS from the Lenovo help page. There were two possible OS reinstall options: the first suggestion was the Lenovo preferred choice. I did that and the results were terrible, apps wouldn’t work, the desk top was bizarre, the whole thing was a mess. I reinstalled from the Lenovo generic Windows 11 reinstall option, much better, it worked for a couple of hours. I ended up going directly to the Microsoft wage and getting their latest Windows 11 install package and this was much better, lasted about half a day.

What I see: On some crashed I simply get a reboot. On some I get all sorts of warned appear on a black screen saying that there was a major problem and I need to restart the machine myself. The MS help site suggest turning the auto-restart option off, I did that, no difference, still crashed. The last major crash I was offered the chance to do a total evaluation of the hardware using a Lenovo diagnostic package. Took about 7 hours and everything was test, all hardware was 100% functional, I took some photos of the results page with lots of long coded results. After that test I started the system again and in about an hour after putting it to sleep I once again saw the black screen telling me what I had seen before. This time I noted in very fine print the statement

Stop Code: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (Ox38) `”What failed: ks.sys”

That’s my problem. Anyone have a clue what is going on and how to fix it??

Hi, welcome.

I believe ks.sys is a kernel streaming driver tied to multimedia (webcam, audio, video capture)

Regardless, try disabling Fast Startup + Hybrid Sleep
  • Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”
  • Uncheck “Turn on fast startup”
  • In advanced power settings: disable “Hybrid sleep”

Reboot & test.

A little more information:

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3B) – “ks.sys”

• This BSOD means a Windows system service made an illegal request — often due to a driver bug or memory corruption.
• `ks.sys` is the Kernel Streaming driver, used by audio, video, and webcam devices.
• If it crashes, it usually points to faulty multimedia drivers (Realtek, Lenovo webcam/audio), especially after sleep/wake cycles.
• Common triggers: Outdated or unstable drivers
• Power state transitions (sleep, hibernate, fast startup)
• Conflicts with third-party software or firmware

You may need to ask for a diagnostic evaluation in the BSOD section of the forum. Try the easiest things first, try Fast Startup & Hybrid test as mentioned above.

You could also try updating your drivers?

Gather the log files per the tutorial. Put all required files into a folder, zip the folder, upload zipped folder to any cloud provider. Then post a SHARED link to the folder here. @zbook will analyze them.

Hello, I shot, is a hibernation mode and you have a SSD drive, in my knowlage is not reccomended to put hiberations on all of ssd high speed drive (becouse are faster then last decade hdd) but if you check System Information on In/Out section in System Windows Tools catalog (or create txt.nfo file and click) you got a information about all bus is work probelly. If get one of bus are false then reinstal drivers form Lenovo website to this bus or this component who are false.
If the warranty are for 2 year more then reccomended are change the past upper on all of CPU and GPU chips !! This is secend of what you need to check if all of commponents are ok.

Thanks for your thoughts. Alas none of these buttons are in my version of Windows 11, installed yesterday.

Bummer..

I check outdated drivers via windows and found 1, which I updated, no impact on problem. I launched CCleaner which has an "updated drivers" button and I pushed that. CCleaner said I had 7 outdated drivers and I updated all. No impact on my problem.
You may need to ask for a diagnostic evaluation in the BSOD section of the forum.
That's the last thing I want to explore.
Try the easiest things first, try Fast Startup & Hybrid test as mentioned above.
My version of Windows 11 (installed yesterday) does not have a "Fast Startup" or "Hybrid" anything I can find.

Excellent ideas but Microsoft changes to Windows 11 and Lenovo desktops don't seem to be compatible.

I do appreciate your good efforts.
