The number of restore points is limited by the 'Max Usage' you have configured for System Restore. Increase it and you should keep more restore points.

Macrium explicitly excludes restore points from its image, so doing so will not increase the size of your Reflect images.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

And that's exactly why I keep all my data and photos in OneDrive. As I work throughout the day, everything I do is constantly mirrored in cloud OneDrive in real-time as I work. And OneDrive duplicates all data and photos in real-time to my System Two. My data and photos are vitally important to me, and I have eliminated the possibility of ever losing anything. Ever. OneDrive is a vital component of my backup strategy along with nightly Macrium Reflect X images.

I use it every time I am installing a new program or update just in case.
I once had a guest for a few nights and let him use my PC. I created a restore point before he started using my PC. I did a system restore when he left.

The whole point of image backups is that you rarely, if ever, need to reinstall the OS, which in itself is a PITA and then having to reinstall all your Apps.

I don't know how much work/time you put on those image backups and how smooth it is but I don't reinstall that often and when I do I can do it manually.

How 'bout define, set & forget the process... a 1-time few minute effort and never go back unless I need to restore (which I do a lot due to nefarious testing, etc.). It's really very easy. I use the DELTA RESTORE process of the imaging app (both Mcrium REFLECT and HASLEO BACKUP SUITE) to perform snapshot type restores... very quick.

Wrong - you obviously have never used it.

It backs up settings as well. It is great doing a clean install as it sets up many of your settings, colour schemes etc.

Agreed but remember that delta restores will delete new data on c drive if not backed up before doing delta restore. That is why I keep data on a separate partition.

As I posted earlier the new Point in Time Restore (Dev build) is neat but it has same "issue" that new data not included on C drive PITR restore point will also get deleted.

This new mode is kind of a hybrid of image backups and restore; points.

I click an icon. It takes < 40 seconds to do a full image backup of my system, including compression, 256 bit encryption, and a verification pass.

I used it yesterday after updating a few programs and the latest 25H2 update.

It seems it's not only files and folders for Windows backup.

I like to check the system first with dism and sfc before backing it up so I know for sure I am not backing up a system with corrupted files.
Setting a product to automatically create images on a schedule you do not know if you are backing up corrupted files.

I have a machine set up as a network fileserver, I leave it running 24/7. As I leave it unattended for the most part I also have it set up for scheduled backups, a Full backup image once a month after the Patch Tuesday update (which Windows Update is set up to do automatically) with weekly Differential backups. All backups are scheduled to run in the middle of the night.

This doesn't stop me from running SFC and DISM. I just make sure that I use Remote Desktop to connect to it and run the commands before the Full backup is due to run.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Does it not have pre and post commands?

Pre command could run sfc or cleanmgr or whatever

Post command could be used to copy the created image to a second disk for example
