Tale of woe - power outage.

5:30pm Tuesday, the power went out. Very short (maybe 30-45 minute), 85mph wind, rain and lightning storm.
Over 180 trees down. About 50 power lines down.
Power came back on at 8pm.

Big sigh of relief.
Then, at 11:30pm the power goes out again, and stayed out for 14 hours.
A total of approx. 400,000 residents without power.

There are still 150,000 residents without power.

Our power came back on around 3pm today, and let's hope it stays on. ^^

Currently 50 million people without power in Spain, apparently.

My wife said that other contries (Including America) have also had blackouts. I’m rather suspicious.

Last blackout we had, my freaking generator crapped itself, unrepairable, just as I was trying to start it.

Cost me 3 thousand, lasted 30 years though. Having no power is horrible.

A massive blackout has caused mayhem along the Iberian Peninsula, stranding passengers in trains and hundreds of elevators and leaving millions without phone and internet coverage in Spain, Portugal and – briefly – south western France.
A state of emergency was declared in Spain in the wake of the major outage, which the country’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said occurred when about 15 gigawatts of electricity – more than half of the power being consumed at the time – “suddenly disappeared” in about five seconds.

More than 60 per cent of Spain’s national electricity supply has since been restored, though Mr Sanchez was unable to say when it would be back completely.

In Portugal, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said power would be totally restored “within hours”.

we rarely have power outages mainly because power lines are buried underground. minimizing the risk of blackouts during severe weather. and since we live near the ocean, winter storms can be quite concerning between december thru march. the last time we had power outage was 8 years before lines were underground...had no internet for at least 48 hours...

That won’t help for interruption caused by outside entities.
The next war will start with a total system shutdown.

But yes, underground cables are good with storms. Unless it hits the power station.

Last outage we had (Prior to the recent Cyclone Alfred), I had a generator that powered the Fridge/Freezer, a box freezer, TV, Theatre System, 2 lamps, device chargers, router, laptop.
The only thing I couldn’t power at the same time was my PC, because 7 monitors and 500 things attached to it that I don’t even think I use.

The last major outage we had a few years ago, the power was off for five and a half days. No generator either. I live in the country so no well, since it's electric, so no shower or toilet. I put up with it for a day and then went to a hotel for the rest of it. Ours was caused by a hurricane and the fact that all of our lines are above ground.

I hate hurricanes.

Is that a whole house generator? At 3 thousand I'm thinking it is. I have three gas powered generators. The first one I bought online from Harbor Freight. It's after 12:00 PM so I'm not going to check what the out put wattage is on the generators until tomorrow. I bought it because my dad needed his oxygen machine to work. The second one was a recycle recovery. One of the benefits of me working at my local township and ethanol gas. The third one is a inverter generator. It doesn't have the wattage of my first generator and it doesn;t have 240 volts. What I really lke about it is that it is so quite that inside of my house I can only hear it if I'm at the rear of my house. Because my first generator has 240 volt outlets I have been thinking about making a pig tail to plug into the outlet I plug in my dryer. I'm sure this is not up to code but if I turn off all of the circuit breakers except the ones I need power to, it will work. A friend of mine did this until he had a whole house generator installed.
