Solved Taskbar won't come back up when auto hidden

My twenty year old laptop has had its taskbar in the same position throughout and shows no sign of 'burn in'.
My ten year old 'main' laptop is the same as is my eight year old desktop.

All the best,
Denis
Same with my 2005 Dell 620 which I recently retired. However, it was rarely on more that a few minutes a day as I only used it for streaming and had the screen set to blank after 5 minutes. Exceptions do not disprove the rule.

Yes, they do.
And I do not think that there is any 'rule'.

I'm not sure why you're arguing burn in does not happen because it does. It's why even on the newest OLED screens they have many methods to attempt to mitigate it. It is off topic for this thread. 🤷‍♂️

All displays will over time, from CRT to OLED, will get burn in with the same elements in the same position on the screen.
This isn't exactly true.. My old monitor is IPS and had something similar to burn in but it went away by itself.. I've taken a lot of measures to prevent burn in on my new OLED .. including using the built in options along with a black background, no taskbar, no desktop icons.

LCD and micro LED screens are a lot less susceptible to permanent burn in than are CRT and OLED's.

Only occasionally or rarely does it happen.
Sure enough. It shouldn't happen at all. Just hitting the Windows key accomplishes the same thing.

Sometimes Focus can interfere with Taskbar. I use this to limit that:
Code:
rem Specifies the number of times the taskbar button flashes to notify the user that the system has activated a background window
rem If the time elapsed since the last user input exceeds the value of the ForegroundLockTimeout entry, the window will automatically be brought to the foreground (focus)
reg add "HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop" /v "ForegroundFlashCount" /t REG_SZ /d "0" /f

rem ForegroundLockTimeout specifies the time in milliseconds, following user input, during which the system keeps applications from moving into the foreground / 0 - Disabled / 200000 - Default
reg add "HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop" /v "ForegroundLockTimeout" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

I have disabled Windows keys to prevent it interrupting games, that is it for me then. :nope:

Fortunately I have a button on my Corsair keyboard to disable the Windows key while I am gaming. I'm trying a method I found on the interwebs of using the compatibility mode
Screenshot 2026-02-15 094057.webp
So far it is working and I've noticed no ill effects from using it.

Yeah, I used Logitech keyboards with features like that till they have gone bad. $120 keyboard dead in 3 months. :eyeroll:
Ever since I use HP keyboard for $10, easily replicable, always working, no strings or apps attached though. Pretty basic.
