Meh.

I just keep all of my passwords and other important things in encrypted text files in My Documents which can only be read by the Windows 11 Professional Standard user account that I enabled it with (it isn't available in W11 Home, by the way).

I just double click on the file and it opens immediately.

I also have unencrypted backups on 3 external hard drives that are only connected to the PC when I update them and a printed copy which I keep in my safe.

English translation:

File or folder encryption on Windows 10 and 11 operating systems is the most effective way to protect your data from unauthorized access. As you mentioned, Windows's built-in encryption tool (EFS) is not available in Windows Home versions; it is only available in Pro, Enterprise and Education versions.
By completing the missing steps, you can find below how to encrypt files and folders in Windows and alternative methods for those who use the Home version.
Windows 10 and 11 Built-in Encryption Steps (Pro and Above)
Follow these steps to encrypt a data with Windows's built-in File Encryption System (EFS):

Open Features: Right-click on the file or folder you want to encrypt and select the Features option.
Enter Advanced Settings: Click Advanced... button at the bottom of the general tab.
Enable Encryption: In the pop-up window, check the "Certify content to protect data" box, which is located under the Selected or Encryption section.
Confirm: Close the advanced window by clicking OK. Then press the Apply button in the main window.
Select Cover (For Folders only): If you are encrypting a folder, you will come across a warning. Select whether the changes will only apply to this folder or to all subfolders and files and click OK.

Note: A yellow lock icon appears on the encrypted folder or files. This data cannot be opened by anyone other than the Windows user you are logged into (even if another user enters the computer or your disk is disconnected and plugged into another computer).
Alternative Methods for Windows Home Edition
If you are using the Windows Home version, the "Encrypt content to protect the data" option above will appear in gray (passive). In this case, you can use the following secure alternatives:

Creating an Encrypted Archive with 7-Zip or WinRAR:
Select right-clicking on the folder and adding it to the archive option.
When selecting the archive format (ZIP or RAR) set a strong password from the "Capcher" section.
Just keep this encrypted archive by deleting the original of the folder.
VeraCrypt Usage: with this fully free and open source software, you can create a virtual, encrypted drive (cass) on your computer and store your sensitive data here.

After encrypting so as not to experience future data loss, it is highly recommended to save your certificate to an external memory, taking into account the "Back Up the Password Key" warning that Windows will recommend to you.

I don't see this as effective as simply having an encrypted ZIP file with a password only you have any idea of. With the encrypted folder, if you walk away from the machine for a minute, someone can copy the data from the folder and walk away.

Exactly! By the time you invent a sufficiently strong password that's unique for every site, you spend a fair amount of the day just typing in passwords from your password notebook! No thanks, life is too short to spend that much of it laboriously typing in cryptic passwords! 🤔
