The Secure Boot update failed to update a Secure Boot variable with error Unknown HResult Error code: 0x800700c1 EventID 1796

I turned my Secure Boot back on today to see what happens. So far, no related errors. I do get a lot more messages in the event log that are apparently security related. We'll see how it goes.

I’m closing this thread as the error pops up randomly on start up and sometime while I’m on my laptop. In fact it’s doesn’t seem to be caused by any particular app/programs. Again it randomly appears. I have gone through entire sessions without seeing the error.

I believe Microsoft tried to fix something with the update of May 13th which in turn broke something else. The error never appeared prior to the May 13th update.

Luckily I haven’t experienced any performance issues.

If I should come across anything relating to this error, I'll certainly share it so those experiencing this error will be able to put it to rest.

Interesting. For me, shutting if off, then turning it back on a few days later, seems to have done the trick. No more messages.
