"This app can't run on your PC" error when trying to install Explorer Patcher

I really don't like BitDefender. See this thread.

Lately, the problem hasn't been with Bitdefender. The problem is with Microsoft.
Seems Bitdefender made some deal with MS, that allowed an MS app to alter the way Bitdefender works.

Bitdefender is of course at fault for bending to MS's wishes.
But when you peel all the layers away... it's MS just like always.

In the link you posted, you tested Bitdefender for a brief time. I've been running Bitdefender (paid), for 9 years.
The "problems" with Bitdefender just started within the last 1-2 years.

MS is going for monopoly, with browser and AV/firewall.

Fair enough. It's just frustrating that user @OnePoint5 got a false positive (Amsi.Edge.8.49F2493A) when trying to run WinSetView that I could not replicate using the BitDefender free version. I assume you're also not seeing that false positive?

I agree, 100%.
I noticed the same thing with other vbscipt even on Win 10. Bitdefender was flagging it.
If nothing else had changed, I'd blame Bitdefender. But on Windows 11, in July 2022, MS installed an update that has at least some control over Bitdefender. Just on Windows 11, so far.

Bitdefender sold out.

We would probably have seen the same thing with Kaspersky, but politics took care of them.
Middle of 2023, I won't be renewing Bitdefender again. I'll have to find a another solution.

When I first installed Win 10... I noticed Windows Defender allowed things... through, and blocked other things, that had nothing to do with what I wanted. These allows and denies, benefited no one but... Microsoft.

I really have no problem with MS making an AV/Firewall or a browser... as long as they remain 100% neutral.
But that's not what's been happening.

UPDATE: I can now run the once-problematic Explorer Patcher .exe file on my Lenovo without getting the popup error message. This is AFTER Microsoft pushed a 22H2 update to my laptop. So I'm guessing the issue had something to do with initial 22H2 files. My HP Envy had no trouble running that EP file, but it is on an earlier version of Windows 11. 22H2 hadn't been pushed to the Envy yet. So that's my best guess at this point.

If anyone has issues installing EP, just wait till 22H2 is updated. By KB5018427, it should work. OR, if you can't wait, do as I did with the workaround: dig up an older version of the EP installation file which should install easily despite 22H2. Then you can update EP within the installed program easily as normal.

Gotta give credit to the EU, at least where Windows is concerned.

I really don't like BitDefender. See this thread.
The way that I see things, like so many other AV suites that keep nagging you to pay for a subscription and use blatant scaremongering tactics to get you to keep renewing your subscription each time before it will expire (and preferrably also a very long time before it will expire) Bitdefender is just another piece of malware that hijacks your computer so you no longer have control over what programs you are allowed to run on your own computer that belongs to you. If it doesn't give you a false positive like this every once in a while, it appears like it isn't doing anything so then you stop paying for it. This is how they try to keep you hooked. It doesn't actually even matter to them that the thing that gets flagged by their AV is open source and hosted on GitHub for the entire world to see what it does to your computer. All that they care about is your money. I see a lot of things. And once I've seen them, I can't unsee them.

Both pics are from Windows 11 Home with the latest updates. If I remove Bitdefender CL Contextual Update...

If I remove the item in the BLUE boxes...Windows Updates, puts it back.
Let's try to stay on the subject.
I don't mind people being upset with various companies. Let's just make sure it's the RIGHT company. ^^

This isn't the normal ads or occasional false positive. This is far worse.
MS store already controls the Nvidia Control panel the Realtek Audio console.
And now 3rd party AV/firewalls...
