Ahh, the stories I have of taking several days off for my birthday, starting the day or 2 days before and just partying through St. Patty's. Especially when St. Patty's fell on a Saturday or Sunday lol.

Those days are well behind me, but they are still some really, really good memories all the same.

Just back from first walk alone, without help, since my stroke early autumn (fall to you Americans) and a second, minor one month and a half later. Feeling incredibly good!

Physio- and speech therapies started finally to show some progress, I was feeling quite optimistic. Then, a few weeks back, I woke up in terrible flu, feverish and powerless. Physiotherapeut came same afternoon, and I asked her to call my doc, who finally came next morning. Covid test, and order to stay in bed. Quarantine five days, second covid test taken on day five came out as negative on day seven, quarantine over. Doc explained, that my immune system was in such a bad way, that my body could not resist almost everything, picking up any flu bugs.

Stayed mostly in bed next two weeks. Going to sleep on Thursday evening, I was feeling surprisingly good, reading and watching TV in bed. Woke up on Friday, and almost without noticing / realising, walked to bath and kitchen without my walking stick. Slowly but surely.

Yesterday evening I thought I must try if I can manage going out for a short walk alone, without help. Still somewhat ashamed about how I look, and especially how my walking with almost paralyzed right leg looks, decided to do "the test" at night. Less people to see me. Alarm today at 4 AM (it's now just past 6:30), two mugs of strong coffee, dressing up slowly (its still difficult), emergency number to speed dial 1 on phone, and out I went.

I really enjoyed it. Walked about an hour, had to take a few breaks sitting on benches on tram stops. But, I managed it. Feeling quite euphoric now, thinking if the issues with walking have been mostly in my head. Physiotherapist coming today, after a few weeks break. She texted me on Friday, saying that she will take me to walk today, that we begin slowly after the break. Have to brag, tell her I couldn't wait!

Glad you are improving @Kari might be lucky too. My brother started feeling dizzy one day, Knowing both of us had a bad bout with Covid and that left left us in bad shape for months I got really worried next morning when he lost some use of his left side, took him to hospital. MRI within an hour showed what they said a "Mild stroke" expected to be good with some physio for couple of months. They wanted to keep him in hospital for a week, had to convince him to stay, Booked a spot in a spa that specializes in strokes for a month's stay, Same afternoon, January 13th (Orthodox new year) he had another, this time massive stroke and died at 4PM.
Had at least two friends with several massive strokes that left them paralyzed for a while but recovered, one was driving motorcycles this fall. Was hoping same for brother but it was not to be, Looks like it's individual thing but looks like if you survive and recover well from first other one(s) may not be as bad with right therapy and activity even if they happen, So please keep up with it even if you feel fine.

Last week I went to the funeral of my family's closest Indian friends' father, who had had 2 strokes already, but a couple of weeks ago, was dealing with COVID, and had an onset of pneumonia, and then abruptly fell in the bathroom, causing a subdural hematoma. He was slowly recovering from that but on 29 Jan he passed.

He was the man I respected most after my own father, a truly brilliant man, and yet he was not my family. I can only imagine what you went through, and offer my condolences.

Thanx, I'm still in shock and unsure of all of it, bad dream or what. He was my almost 6 years younger brother and I always tried to look for him and now feel like I failed him at last step. The fact that he was in better shape than me and so suddenly gone doesn't help a bit.

Completely understand. My 'uncle' (as that is what he was to me, even without a blood relation) was in fantastic shape - marathon runner, MD, with also Law degree and MBA. The (first) stroke was completely unexpected, but he managed to survive that one, but had 2 more later on, the last one leaving him very debilitated.

Well done my friend - we can't wait for you to get back to full strength showing us wonderful ways of using DISM that us mere mortals dream off. Be careful though - it is still Winter - never forget your mobile phone (and preferably carry a powerbank as well).

Arghhh - just read there is going to be a remake of "Farty Towels". It was the most classic Brit comedy ever.

Who can ever forget the politically incorrect episode "The Germans" - Don't mention the war!

You just know before it even airs that the humour will be so censored by the PC brigade that it will be pathetic.

Ok the original was totally non pc but it was superbly manic humour, and nobody could ever emulate that now.

Any attempt to emulate the original chaos is going to be so tedious.

Ah, I don't think it will be censored, but it certainly cannot be remotely as good, and nobody could play the manic like Cleese, kicking a garden gnome. And "The Germans" I can watch over and over with Cleees's goose-stepping with finger mustache, I just wish there were more episodes.
