I gave it a try but Nod32 says the FCleaner.dll is a virus. It won't ignore it even though I told it to. It says it was logged as a virus 1 week ago.

Probably both false positives - those antimalware programs are probably just doing what they're supposed to do, with the use of heuristics : identifying something that is designed to access the system

However, all signs of sloppily written software - antimalware not design to exclude genuine system access programs, and cleaning software not designed to bypass antimalware

Pas pour moi.

Best of luck using these programs. These developers don't have Microsoft's inside knowedge and might delete vital files.

Anything that cleans "all" the junk files with one click is a dangerous program IMO! Not a chance I'd run that on my systems. 🤔👎

Personally, I use DiskMax by Koshy John. It removes junk files from every user on your system including temporary installation files, user temp and history files, explorer thumbnail caches, error reporting logs, as well as files and cookies (and be told to leave them alone if you want to keep them).

It does remove registry entries but that can be skipped if you don't want your registry manipulated (my personal choice).

Over all, it does what I need and I've had zero issues with using it. I've been a free user of DiskMax for several years and have had zero issues or zero times it destroyed my system (YMMV - always use these applications with caution and make sure of what you choose - I am not responsible if this or any program messes up your system).

I tried DiskMax and frankly was shocked when I realized it does not scan for things to delete and then let yo review them before actually deleting anything - it just starts deleting immediately. This makes it a no-go for me.

While it doesn't show you what files it will delete, you can choose what it checks -- this is why I expressed "use with caution".

Personally, I'm ok with not knowing what files it will delete as I know what areas of files it will delete. There are times when its been a while since I last used DiskMax and there would be thousands of files it would want to delete and going over that list would be time consuming. For example, after not using it for several weeks, the end screen said it deleted 10k files and more than a gig of space - no way I'll review that list.

Since I had just done an image backup, I decided to give Diskmax a try. It removed 3.5GB of files, I was impressed. Now, if my machine starts crashing, I'll be less impressed, but so far everything seems fine. :unsure:
