CSM needs to be disabled to enable Secure Boot. Secure boot is a Windows 11 requirement.

Have you checked to see if your video card supports UEFI? Is there a BIOS update for the card?

At the end of the day, you won't be able to disable CSM because the video card needs it because it may not be UEFI supported. So you'll have to find a card that does (all modern day cards support UEFI) or find a video card BIOS that enables/fixes UEFI on it

That said, I'd be somewhat surprised if the card didn't support UEFI considering those card were released around 2016. Anyway, you should be able to tell if the card is UEFI supported with the use of GPU-Z

BTW, I too have a Z390 gigabyte board as seen in my system specs.

It is under the BIOS tab on my gigabyte, but I dont have a video card to faff with.




I think people have posted videos on yochob of workarounds for naughty graphics cards. I have a vague recollection that Phil did one on his channel philscomputerlab or it might be on tech yes city channel.

"If" the card doesn't support UEFI, you can't disable CSM and have the card still work. The first thing the OP should do is run GPU-Z to see if the UEFI checkbox is checked. If so, the card supports UEFI, and the issue is elsewhere. First things first... is the card UEFI or not?

That's very likely the layout the OP's board has, but as a reminder not all Gigabyte boards have the same BIOS layout. This is from my Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Xtreme with the latest (F9J) BIOS. Do need to note that this BIOS started out just like the image above, but Gigabyte changed the layout in the F8 BIOS update 2 years ago....



Here CSM is disabled cause my GPU supports UEFI, and thus since CSM is disabled, I can now enable Secure Boot. Also note VGA support where is says EFI driver.

You are in advanced mode. And you have got extra toys to play with for those who like doing shoot em up games. This is a b series, a tiny little thing not much bigger than a mini.

win7 and vista running nicely on this in efi mode.

And the screen shot you posted shows "classic mode" (I have the same BIOS layout as you on my Gigabyte GA-Z270X-Gaming 8 board as shown below). Here's both Classic mode and Easy mode....

Yes my motherboard has onboard graphics, not capable of any gaming..
I have updated the vbios from Gigabyte.com, with no change to the original problem of CSM disable.
Yes I may have to remove the rx480 and use onboard to test this.

I don't think you can disable CSM if your system is in legacy mode. I can't swear by this though since I don't run legacy hardware.

I must be missing something because I know the processor may have an integrated GPU which allows you to attach a monitor to the video out of the motherboard, but as far as I know the board itself doesn't have a built in GPU.

That BIOS setting will have no effect on your issue.

Soo in short yes my pc is windows 11 ready as Diabled CSM and then rebooted to bios again to enable Secureboot.
LONG version I do not have the time for though it took me to reformat a M.2 1tb drive on my motherboard that was being used for storage into a non-MBR type drive for the os then reloaded win10x64 Pro for this to happen ( windows 11 checker =ok )
A bit of a fuddle with my hdd / ssd's and hey presto pc back, nearly.
The vbios update of my older rx480 8gb was my initial incorrect guess at the problem. This has cause instability in my pc, when under load etc left for a time alone even at idle.
After a struggle getting a dos bootable usb working by undoing alot of what I had achieved (secureboot / CSM) I flashed in freedos from rufus using a bios from gigabyte.com and their atiflash program. Hopefully this is the solution to the problem I caused by flashing in windows a file from techpowerup for my card. Any how I do not want to hijack this thread.
Though this is a journey I did not want to take in this way, TPM and Secureboot wise anyway..

I'm having a slightly different problem. I have a build with a Z390 Wifi and an Intel I9. I go into bios and disable CSM, Save and Exit and it reboots right back to bios, in other words it won't boot to windows. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I have to say, Microsoft could have made this easier.

You'd need a uefi install
CSM allows legacy installs for win-7
