I received an email today that Windows 10 will not be supported starting with TT 2025 since it is EOL in October

We’re reaching out to provide an update on TurboTax Desktop software for tax year 2025. After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 operating system. Because security is a top priority for us, TurboTax Desktop software for tax year 2025 onwards will not be compatible with Windows 10 operating system.

To use TurboTax Desktop software for tax year 2025, your computer will need to run on Microsoft Windows 11 operating system. You can also consider switching to TurboTax Online, which will work on any supported browser (available December 2025).

Gee, thanks for looking out for me :rolleyes: How does a person deciding to continue with 10, especially with an added year of security updates available, make TT insecure? I understand the general reasons to perhaps switch from 10 after it goes EOL, but TT saying no more, right now...Been using them for almost 2 decades

Gee, thanks for looking out for me :rolleyes: How does a person deciding to continue with 10, especially with an added year of security updates available, make TT insecure? I understand the general reasons to perhaps switch from 10 after it goes EOL, but TT saying no more, right now...Been using them for almost 2 decades

As I posted on similar post about Intuit, my bet is this is lawyers protecting their posteriors i.e. worried about being sued if something goes wrong.

Got an email from Intuit today. They say TurboTax 2025 will not support Win10, even with the ESU security options.

They will support Win11 ONLY. Or online (yeah right I am going to upload all my financial data to Intuit online...)

They don't specify whether Win11 23H2, 24H2, or 25H2 are a minimum requirement, only that Win11 is a requirement.

I find this kind of funny as Win11 23H2 goes EOL in November 11 2025. So no further feature or security updates.

Well, since this is critical to your financial situation, your pc could hold key information that could be useful to hackers.

Don't you think it is incumbent on you to keep windows up to date, with latest security patches like the vast majority of us?

Intuit are obviously making a reasonable assumption you would keep up to date. Don't blame them if you get hacked.

Apply some common sense - this is not a real issue!

Well, fair point but a lot of people will not even know how to do this or understand it. Also W10 does not necessarily add TPM security or require secure boot (if one believes how useful that is). Granted people can bypass these on Windows 11 as well, but at one's own risk.

In the end, the KISS principle applies - keep up to date on Windows 11 for the most secure OS. When it comes to money matters, is it worth compromising?

But how many of those systems out there running Win10 are TPM1.2, so can't upgrade to TPM2.0.
So they upgrade via tweaks to Win11 with TPM1.2. Are they now 'secure'?
I still have no clear insight from anyone what TPM2.0 gives me in terms of better security than does TPM1.2.

And as to secure boot, I see lots of systems just turning it off come mid 2026 when all the cert expiration fiasco hits.

And Win11 23H2 is going EOL in November. Meaning no more security updates. How many will know to upgrade to 24H2 or 25H2.

So Intuit will support Win11 23H2 (or 22H2 or 21H2, they don't say) as a 'secure' platform but Win10 23H2 with ESU is 'not secure'.
Come on. If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you ...

According to Intuit, yes. But Win11 23H2 with goes EOL in November 2025 is still 'secure'. Splain that to me.

Nope, submit via printed paper using tracked USPS Priority mail.
I always make sure to owe Uncle Sam at the end of the year, so they cash my written check.
I don't like to loan money out for free LOL.

I do keep my Windows 10 up to date, and have enrolled in ESU. I use VPN, use antivirus monitor MalwareBytes too.

There is a lot more data on my system that is more useful to hackers than my tax forms.

Personally I think there is some kind of backroom deal between Microsoft and Intuit, to declare Win10 obsolete and Win11 the next-great-thing.

Just like the backroom deal between Microsoft and PC system vendors to obsolete perfectly fine hardware (TPM1.2) because Win11 'needs' TPM2.0 to be secure. So getting Win11 'requires' many perfectly functional Win10 systems to be sent to the recycler.

So my solution is to use VirtualBox and spin up a Win11 VM on my Win10 or Linux (I switch around) base platforms.

A little slower, but TurboTax is not gaming.

Anyway, I'm done ranting for now. I know it is a pointless quest, Intuit is not going to change. Microsoft is not going to change.

ESU only lasts one year.

Well obviously.

But for now I am not going to junk perfectly functional hardware (8 core XEON with 128GB memory) that runs Win 10 just fine but is not Win 11 compatible (not TPM 2.0, only 1.2).

Next year or two Intuit will probably require Win 12 with AI enabled to do your taxes. Meaning new hardware and software again.

I still use my iPhone 8 too. Works perfectly fine, no need to toss it either.

And I drive a 2013 model year car.

And live in a 60 year old house.

They all work just fine.
