Solved Turn off monitor shortcut

Hello guys

I recently bought a Samsung monitor and the menu works with a little joystick in the back.

There is no dedicated turn off button

In order to turn off the monitor i have to go through a series of presses left right turns etc :)

So i was wondering if its possible to create a shortcut with some code that turns off the monitor.

I don't know if its possible to affect the monitor's hardware through Windows.

I definitely don't wont the shortcut to affect Windows in any way ( Sleep,Turn Off,Log Off etc )

I am only interested in a scenario as if the shortcut is pressing the turn off button on the monitor.

You could use the context menu added by the tutorial below to make it easier to turn off the display.

This does not turn off the power to the display though.


Another possible option is to plug the monitor into a power strip that has an on/off switch to kill the power.

It's basically puts the monitor into a standby sleep state the same way below when the display automatically turns off after a specified time of no activity like.

Any activity (ex: move mouse), and the display automatically turns back on.

It also allows you to "Lock computer and turn off display".
I use this when I'm going to be away from the computer and don't want anyone else using the computer.

When you choose this, moving the mouse, etc., brings you to the login screen (lock screen).

By the way when the monitor is in this sleep standby mode is it still working? Like consuming power and feeling hot or is it like its turned off completely ?

When the display is in a standby sleep state, it'll still have power, but it will be low power and shouldn't get hot or warm.

It's not the same as turning off completely with a power switch/button.

Thanks @Brink . One last question. Can i assign keyboard shortcuts to the two actions? Like Ctrl + Shift or something?

If you created a shortcut with the command below from the context menu you could assign a keyboard shortcut to the shortcut, but the shortcut will have to remain on the desktop.
