uefi boot comes up on start up press f1 or f2

You have to have the correct time and date in the BIOS or many really weird things will happen. ^^

Oh yeah.
One example would be subscription programs.
Depending on the time/date in the BIOS, they could fail to function.

The Windows clock gets it's time from the internet.
For best operation, the BIOS clock should agree with the Windows clock.

In many BIOSes, the time will be on a 24 hour clock.

Like right now, where I am... it's 6:50pm in Windows and 18:50 in the BIOS.

Did you remove any component in order to be able to reach cmos battery, such as graphics card ? CMOS battery on my motherboard is very close to the graphics card. Unless I remove gfx card, I cannot reach battery.

If you removed any component, reseat it and check its cable connections. But first check monitor connections before all else.

does an intel core i5 8400 have integrated graphics
yes I have got one

It is cheap way to get a machine with win11 support

b360 or b365 or h310 motherboard second hand on auction sites might find h310 for £40 or b360/365 more likely £50-60

i5-8400 or i5-9400 at cex or similar about £25

couple of sticks ddr4 ram which are not so cheap now unfortunately

They had 2 x8 gb 2666mhz for £30 but sold out

ram and sdd prices are getting ridiculous.
Amazon has samsung 870 evo 1tb at £114.99. Argos still has some at a slightly less ridiculous £97.49

I dont know if that gtx is better than the integrated graphics. You can probably look it up on tinterent. It wont make any difference for general use but it might be better if you play those shoot-em-up-games

Most motherboards, when you install a GPU (video card) it disables the integrated onboard HDMI (top one) that is the chip on the motherboard.
You can only use the GPU video ports, in that case.
Some newer motherboards allow you to re-enable the integrated video once a video card is installed , but since you are letting your brother make changes in Setup (Bios) I would assume this is too advanced of a step for you, and may not work anyways.

Motherboards come on Auto mode in BIOS for graphics output option when both integrated and discrete gfx chips are available. If somebody did not change this setting to discrete gfx card, then you are good to go.

First: find the drivers for Intel integrated / onboard graphics chip.

Second: install this Intel driver pack.

Third: Turn off your PC.

Fourth: Connect the monitor cable to Intel onboard graphics output port.

Fifth: Turn on your PC.

Assuming you do not get anything on the monitor, do not worry. You connect your monitor cable to its previous port. You are using HDMI cable. HDMI cables are like USB cables. You can remove and refit an HDMI cable while PC is running like an USB cable.

Good luck.
