As the title suggests, I am unable to download and install updates.
The system was able to install .NET updates but it fails on cumulative updates.
Here is the following message which pops up every time I retry to install updates.

Here is the update history

I had success in installing some updates, but update KB5016691 and KB5016629 are giving errors.

I have tried various tools and sources off internet, to install these updates in last couple of dates but have failed.
I tried using DSIM, installing updates manually by downloading them through catalog-microsoft.
Even then I encountered the same errors.
Here are the snippets of the error

The very last attempt I made was to fix this issue by using Windows Iso file. It resulted in a different error this time.

This problem started with the update KB5016629 which came about a month ago and I wasn't able to download and install it.
I ignored the error thinking it might be some other problem because I was able to install Security and .Net updates.

Please guys, help me resolve this issue. Any kind of help would be really appreciated.

Looks very related to the issue I'm also experiencing when installing KB5016629: Errors 0x800f0831 when installing KB5016629

I didn't find a solution yet, but maybe you can take some inspirations from what I tried (also very similar to your tries).

Me too, but with a different update.

I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with the update process and/or the data that it creates on each system.

You are not alone, I had the same experience with both KB5016629 & KB5016691. In both cases the update goes to 30% and the PC restarts and goes into infinite spinning circle. The last successful cumulative update that went without a hitch was KB5015582 which is the 832 build dated 7/21/2022. All the other updates work fine and it's just the cumulative update that's failing every time. I hope MS is aware of this and they are working to fix it. Would be nice if they at least let people know that there may be some issue with these updates on certain machines. It worked fine on my laptop but not on my desktop machine. Not sure if it's some hardware related anomaly that's causing this.

Try downloading the KB as a separate file and installing that "outside' the Windows update process.

I tried it as a standalone installer and ran into the same issue with both KB5016629 & KB5016691. There's something wrong with these updates and it only affects some machines.

It might be worth suspending any 3rd party NVME drivers and RGB apps before updating, it has been known for some device drivers to interfere with the update process, such as RGB cooler, SSD, GPU interface software.
I think bleepingcomputer.com has some recently archived articles about this subject, may be worth a check.
