Solved Unexpected Kernel Mode trap

Windows 10. Sudden blue screen while using email app saying Unexpected Kernel Mode trap. Computer needs to restart. It restarted but did the same thing again when I tried to open the web browser but this time it didn’t restart and said diagnosing and repairing windows - which it failed to do. I turned it off and on again and it restarted so tried to boot into safe mode but it just crashed again.

Went to Advanced options - start up repair but that failed too. Tried hitting f4 at restart to go into safe mode but that failed too. Any ideas please?

Edit - second time it crashed the error was pfn-list corrupt.

Managed to go into safe mode and it still crashed with something like “driver overran buffer”. Then went to blue screen with error “stop code kernel_mode heap corruption

Possibly drive failing? Pressed escape on reboot and doing hardware diagnostics

Sorry I couldn’t add which Windows 10 version but couldn’t stay logged in to check - but has all the latest updates.

All hardware diagnostics came up no issue except keyboard test failed. But keyboard works

Restarted and it doesn’t crash if I don’t try and connect to the internet. Ran sfc/scannow and no issues.

Might be loose or faulty RAM. I suggest a bootable Ubuntu USB stick. This will immediately eliminate any hardware fault.
Have you a recent backup image? Why waste time diagnosing unless you like the challenge?

I opened a thread in Ten Forums and uploaded the V2 results and no one replied (except Kelper, thank you) which referred me bck here. nyway as you can see, the hardware diagnostics tht found the keybord ws fulty were right - hence typos nd certin keys not working. Computer is working fine otherwise though. ll other checks were fine.

Actually no - not ok - mouse and screen keep freezing now - hence I’m typing on my phone. I’ll wait to see if someone replies on ten forums.
