Solved Update from windows 11 Home to Pro


Even if it is a legit key, it cannot be used on more than one computer. If it is an OEM key it can be activated 2-3 times. After that you must buy another key, it doesn't activate for ever. If it is a legit Windows 7 or 8 key, it cannot be used to activate Windows 10/11 anymore, Microsoft blocked this option some months ago. There is a command to find out what key you have and activation status, but I don't remember it right now.

PS: I found it. Open a Command Prompt as Administrator and execute slmgr /dlv Then check type (OEM, RETAIL, VLK) at Description and why is not activating at License Status.

He's getting an error code that says it's blocked on the Microsoft servers. It seems pretty clear there's some issue with the validity of the key. From the previous answers in this thread, I'm getting the idea that he may have already used the key.

The laptop Asus had the windows 11 home, I bought Windows 11 Pro (293.80$ CAD) than I try to change code with my code, and it didn't work, so I ask to Copilot that give to me the generic code and say insert before and restart, then insert you code, but a this time look like the generic code is inside the computer but not activate. When I contact Microsoft was very hard understand part for connection and most part of accent Indian and a fast speak, I contact 2 time and that give to me a code via email, she ask to tell her a code, then she give to me in the chat a code to put inside a app downloadedand...hey I am tired of Microsoft, I understood the fear that someone steal code.... Crazy a 76 year old. Sorry guys may be for confusion, I hope you understand my English. Anyway have a great weekend!

If I'm understanding you correctly, your problem is caused by the fact that one key is only good for one device.

Just like we all said. When a key is activated on one computer it is registered in Microsoft server and FAILS if you try to activate a second computer. You need to buy a new Windows 10/11 Pro key. Since Windows XP (2001), you cannot use the same key to activate a second computer. If you are using an older version, such as Windows 95/98/ME you could use the same key to install, not activation needed. Although this was illegal as well.

Unfortunately Microsoft has blocked using Windows 7 and 8 keys to activate Windows 10/11. Before that he could have used a sticker from an old computer or laptop with Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8 Pro. Most of them are only activated once, so they would activate again. This of course means that when the original computer is connected to the internet it would be deactivated! No cheating allowed.

My mini-PC is happily running with a Groupon $12 Win11 Pro key and has had no issues of any kind related to licensing. It comes up as a standard retail key and activated without an issue.

The very cheapest key site was a little dicey, at least to me, so I checked BCDKEY out. It does actually look like you can buy a key for the insane price of $1.31! OK, I was curious, so I bought one. Sure enough, it seems it's a valid retail key!

I have an old PC that I'm tinkering with Win 11 Pro on, and it's not yet activated. I booted it up and entered this key, and it now says it's activated with a Win 11 Pro retail key.

Normally, you can't use any Windows key multiple times except for the volume license. Those keys are issued to corporations that also have a volume license.

Did you look at the link I posted? Out of curiosity I bought one of these keys for $1.31, it was a retail Windows 11 Pro key and activated without issue. Just click on the 50% off and then you're good. Do you really want to give up on Win 11 Pro for $1.31?

Note, make sure you select the one that says Retail in the description.

A key to activate Windows 10/11 Pro is only needed the first time, if a system was never running Windows 10/11 Pro before. If it was running at least once before, the machine has a digital license on Microsoft servers and should activate automatically using the generic key to upgrade from Home to Pro. It doesn't matter if it was Windows 10 or 11 Pro. Either version will activate the other.

I get the sense that he doesn't have a key that ever activated this machine with Win 11 Pro. In any case, I've spent enough time on this thread, if he doesn't have enough information to solve his problem, I'm probably not the guy to help him! :think:
