Update Win 10 to Win 11

My printer died, reason to keep Win 10. I now want to upgrade my puter to Win 11 for new printer. Can I just update to 23H2 without any previous updates ?

You can easily find out with this (portable) tool...




If you get all GREEN boxes like this... you're good to go.
Even if you don't, there are still work arounds...

1. Take the screenshot, edit it as desired, save to your desktop as .png or .jpg (max. size = 2MB)
2. Left click in your post, where you want to place the screenshot.
3. Click the Attach Files button at lower left, browse to your pic and click Insert.
4. After clicking Insert, I usually choose the Thumbnail (smaller) option, or the Full Image (larger) option.

You can upgrade to 24H2 if your processor has POPCNT, whether or not your CPU in question is officially supported by Microsoft.

I can confirm here it works.

The next big update, Windows 11 version 24H2, is likely to roll out in September or October of 2024 to the end users, once it reaches general availability (GA). Microsoft is currently finalizing the 24H2 version and it will be released to manufacturers (RTM) by April.

Any computer newer than 8th gen will probably be able to run Win 11 24H2 (without the workaround).

@KWEB,
I suggest you build the USB Win 11 23h2 installation drive using MCT
To upgrade the Win 10, just run Setup.exe from running Windows.

This will allow you to keep all your programs, files, etc...

Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software


Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.
Macrium Reflect
AOMEI Backupper Standard (free)


Get the Windows 11 ISO (Option #2), and save it to your desktop...


Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

Once you're ON Windows 11... if you are not on 23H2 already, you can just use the Enablement Package to "update" to 23H2. BUT, you must already be ON Win 11 to use the Enablement Package.

If by preview, you mean 24H2... that's only for Insiders.

On normal threads we don't suggest versions that are on Beta test (like it is now Win 11 24h2). I've already posted that Windows 11 version 24H2, is likely to roll out in September or October of 2024 to the end users

If you want to do so, I suggest you do on the Windows Insider

I saw on my preview, that will likely happen around the time it expires in September or maybe in October. Can't wait!

I would like to add that when giving the version number that the current Build you are running be included. Such as Version 23H2, Build 22635.3209 which I am running.

When the final build is released, you don't to need install Windows again. Disenroll from Insiders when you're on it.

Its going to involve a lot of new feature testing and bug fixes rolled out to us guinea pigs until then.
