Apologies for seeming to be a heretic, but Dell
SupportAssist is riddled with issues, and it has been for years. I am a daily participant at the Dell Forums, under the name "
garioch7." There is a subforum dedicated to
SupportAssist. Read it, and weep!
As soon as my Dell computers exit the warranty period, I uninstall all Dell bloatware, with special attention to
SupportAssist.
When it works, it is a resource hog and notoriously unreliable. Weekly, I go the Dell Support Home website, enter my service tag, and find the specific drivers available for my particular Dell models. I then decide what updates I want.
Moreover, I would
caution everyone about permitting
SupportAssist or Windows Update to handle Dell computer BIOS updates. The recommended and safest way is via the
Dell F12 Flash BIOS pre-boot menu option.
Many will say that they have relied upon
SupportAssist and it worked great. Most of the time, it does, but a borked BIOS update will really
ruin your day! I have been there and done that. Never AGAIN, if I can help it.
Just my heretical two cents. The computer owner ultimately decides the level of risk that they are willing to accept. My risk tolerance is exceedingly low.
Have a great day.
Regards,
Phil
