I recently had a situation where I really missed the old TARGET.DLL from W95. Has anyone made a version of this that's compatible with the newer OSs?

Yes, I've read about the current crop of PowerToys, but these apparently address new issues. It seems that nobody at Microsoft is interested in updating the "oldies but goodies" to current standards, and I came here to ask if anyone knew of a third party version.

Since my OP, I tried installing the old version, figuring that the two small files (TARGET.DLL and TARGET.INF) couldn't do much harm if things went wrong, and removing them would be easy if necessary - but that didn't have any effect.

Well, we're talking Windows 95, right? That's ancient history and if anyone is still using it... I can't even imagine...

Yes, but the issue that this PowerToy was created to address still exists 25+ years later. On thinking about it, I'm astounded that this little tool hasn't been baked into the OS after all this time.

I keep a 95 machine on hand and fire it up once or twice a year when I'm feeling nostalgic for a few games that I never could get running right on newer systems.
