Yes, there is a difference but you can always add that account later and still get points. The choice is yours. User preference prevails.

yes. sort of like that. Trust me, MS will be prompting you to switch your local account over to your MS account anyway. They just love to fill up your PC with garbage you don't need. Those points aren't really "free". lol

tried the win f10 and another supposed route to setting up a local account but maybe MS has stopped that.
Tried 3 times in vain to get a Windows specialist on their virtual agent portal no one ever chatted.
Going to try tomorrow reading my disconnected hard drive with an external reader hoping my MS password is there.
Thanks to all that helped so far. I'm close I think that I'm on the last set up screen.

I heard MS was going to take nro away but there's more than one way to skin a snake. I'm surprised the ms-cxh command didn't work for you. I'm assuming your internet was disconnected before you tried the newer method.

I should have posted that the windows key and f10 do not get me to command prompt.
Scannerman the video helped I thought somebody posted use the windows key and f10. In the video he used shift and f10. I'm now setting up the local account. Local account is set up and I'm finally in. Did all my updates except for the Gigabyte updates. I really appreciate everybody that made suggestions and links to videos. Still need to resolve my passwords, but tomorrow I hope to reconnect my drive that I removed prior to do the new Win 11 install. I hope that I will be able to help somebody with all that I went through. Thanks for having my back(y)

On another note, on my first post I stated that my system was a dinosaur, but it's amazing how snappy, and responsive this new system is. in comparison.

Glad I could be of help. I wondered if it wasn't some technicality because the ms-cxh command worked for me fine only last month. Might as well mark this thread solved. When you're ready to set up dual boot we can have another round and some more fun. 😎

The key combination is SHIFT+F10 to open a Command Prompt. See my previous post and make sure you type the command exactly as it appears. No extra spaces, no wrong \ instead of / etc.

Was able to reconnect my previously disconnected drive to get all my passwords etc. I need to reinstall my Office program to read my "stuff" that's when I realized I have no DVD player another rookie mistake. At least I can laugh at this one. I'll look in ordering an external player. Yes, despite my slogging through this clean install I'm glad I did it.

Can't you temporarily connect the old SATA DVD to install Office? No need to put it inside the tower, just connect the cables. If you have another computer with a DVD drive you can also share it so you can access it remotely from the network. I have done it to install some software in my laptop without a DVD drive.

I have also shared CD/DVD drives remotely but I find it more convenient to have a physical drive. That is why I bought an external DVD drive for use with my laptops. I suggest one be careful which external DVD drive you get because there are cheap ones out there I wouldn't trust. I friend bought one that only made coasters. He then bought an ASUS ZenDrive like I have that has had no problems.

@Smalltown you must have a real old version of Office if it came on a CD. That last version of Office that I have that came on a CD was Office 2003 Pro. Starting with Office 2007 Pro the setup program was a file I downloaded.

I managed to get a DVD going and installed MS Office sure had a lot of updates, but this new configuration chewed through all the updates quickly.
MisterEd you bet its and old copy. Version 2007 DVD install. I love this product still works great for what I'm using it for.

Strange. Microsoft has stopped with physically selling Office for quite some time now. I have bought 2013, 2019, 2021 distributed online at reduced prices. After 2021 they kept nagging to buy Office 365 and paying a monthly fee. No way! Even now 2024 you can buy online also at reduced prices.

Here in Greece up to a certain version you could buy either the installation DVD or medialess. In my computer store we would sell more DVDs because back then was weird to buy medialess. Most customers thought we were installing a pirated version if they didn't get a genuine DVD with their purchase.
